Now that the holidays are behind us I plan to spend the week ordering my curriculum for Grace's 3rd grade year which we will begin toward the end of the month. This month we will read a lot together and maybe do some math flash cards but my big focus will be household chore training. I want her by my side helping with all aspects of the housework, meal planning, you name it. I am so excited about getting our new things and getting going on 3rd grade!

Is anyone else gearing up? And if so would you like to share you curriculum choices? I have mine mapped out and will share too. I like to see what others are doing.:)

We school year round but I just got done ordering my daughters books/cd's for "next year".

As far as training household chores, we do this every morning. We have a routine, we do not start schoolwork until after lunch. In the AM I am usually up an hour before the kids, I check my email and forums, and say goodbye to my husband as he leaves for work. My 18 yr old son gets his bus for school at 8am (he is autistic and is in a program for kids with autism). Girls roll out of bed anytime between 8-8:30. By 9pm we are done with breakfast and then we all have our chores to do. If I have any errands to run out of the house we do them first. I put up laundry, the girls fold and put away.

My older daughter helps me with our weekly meal planning, couponing and shopping. We plan two weeks at a time, pull from the pantry what we need and make a list of what we don't have. She helps me shop and she helps me cook and this past year learned canning. My younger DD loves to cook, and is getting really good with measuring.

We run a traditional household. The boys are older, they take care of most of the outside yard work, taking out the garbage and walking the dog etc. If one of them tries to mess with the laundry, my daughter will freak lol..

We are starting a new year tomorrow. I was prepped for today, but DH has the day off and we'll be getting other things done instead.

We've become pretty eclectic. We use a CM approach, but aim for content associated with a classical education...I get a lot of books from OFE, but am combining some books for multiple grade levels. We use SOTW as our history, but my oldest (loves reading and loves history) will usually read through the OFE history selections, as well.

In addition, we have a microscope, a telescope, an electric lab, and we have invested in a children's computer programming course for our oldest (who is only 8, so I have my doubts. However, he is determined and my DH is supportive, so we'll see). We read living books about science content, but my kids are really into hands-on stuff. Our 8yo got about 8 science activity kits for Christmas, by the 27th he done (and "consumed") all but two in entirety.

We've started today for the new year. YAY.

We're continuing our Exploring Countries & Cultures from My Father's World. We're on Europe for the next 6 weeks and we'll do in depth study on Norway, France and Germany. :)

Continuing Teaching Textbooks, Vocabulary from Classical Roots, Grammar, Spelling Power, etc.

We're doing reading that goes along with our country, too.

:) it's nice to be starting. And as much as I love MFW...not sure I'm continuing with it next year. I just need to face facts that I'm a free-bird and can't get tied down to other's schedules! LOL :)

We are. After pulling my kiddos out of their virtual acadamy in November, I felt that taking the holidays off would be best so I could get their curriculum together, and the stress of the holidays wasn't included with starting a new way of schooling. I still have a few books that need to be ordered, and I can't do that until my tax return comes in, so we will start those subjects at the end of the month. I think having to start with just a couple of subjects is going to work well for us, so we can kind of introduce this slowly!

    I am so excited

We actually started the last week of December. Mommy needed our routine to get back into swing and the girls were getting stir crazy anyways. Especially with all of the shiny new books waiting to be started.

Here is our curriculum choices for this year. Some will only last us part of the year so this will be updated probably in May.

    Curriculum for 2011

My apologies. I forgot that I linked to some of the curriculum we use in my blog post.

Here it is without the links. Once again, it is not my intention to "advertise" to you all. I spend quite a bit of time typing up stuff on my blog which means I have less time to be doing it here. I apologize if I offended anyone or broke any rules.

    Monday and Wednesday:

Devotions for Girls: God and Me

Math U See Alpha for Keira

Math U See Beta for Brianna

    Community Helpers by Abeka

Abeka 1st Grade Letters and Sounds 1 and Language 1

I decided Brianna could benefit from more review over certain blends so she is going to do 1st grade as well. I have her moving through it quite a bit faster than her sister though so that we can get through what she already has a good grasp on and as soon as I feel she is ready we will move on to 2nd grade. I think she will be ready come May.

Cursive practice with made up sheets

Tues and Thurs are the same as Monday and Wednesday except we add:

50 States Under God for Young Learners

Explode the Code 1 1/2 and Explode the Code 2

    God's Wonderful Works

    Friday:

Same as Monday and Wednesday except we do Science and don't do the Community Helpers.

I am really liking the way this looks. It spreads everything out that we don't have to do every day and the other things have just enough that we won't go nuts trying to get it all done. Total I anticipate it taking us between 2-2.5 hours to finish school each day. Of course this remains to be seen!

Yes, we are starting the 10th grade this month. We stretched out 9th grade because I needed some time to get my head together. I don't know if my head is totally together, but I have more peace about things more often than I used to.

Wow I didn't realize so many of you school year round like me! :) I love reading about what everyone is doing. I have been out of town all day and now have to leave again to take Sam to drama practice but if I get a chance tonight I will post what we plan for 3rd grade.

Anna what is 50 States Under God? Sounds neat.
