Yesterday I went out to lunch with my mom, hubby, & 2 kids. A man approached us and apologized for interrupting and asked us if we homeschool. I said yes and he said he could tell by how well behaved my kids were, that they were kind to each other, and that my dd was refilling our drinks for us (basically waiting on us because she was on the outside of a round booth). He was very sweet and any compliment makes you feel good but it was great that he spoke up and talked to us. Now, he did mention seeing my bumper sticker so he did know there were homeschoolers in the restaurant. And during school hours it wouldn't take too much to figure out who the homeschoolers were BUT it still made my day. I love the pat on the back once in awhile and I noticed it almost made my mom cry to hear that about her grandkids. Trust me in the fact that those things don't get said about her other 8 grandkids! Thanks for sharing that. I am so glad you got to experience that little boost! Who says there's no instant gratification in parenting?
It's always great to get a compliment from the public. I know that positive comments from complete strangers have given me a "boost" throughout my many years of homeschooling. It's even nicer when you get it from family, friends, or your church congregation. Congratulations, job well done! Thanks everyone. I think I really needed that encouragement. Sometimes I wonder if I can do anything right! I hope everyone gets that extra boost at some point in their hs "career".
