Does anyone use handwriting without tears, and did you like it. I will have a K-3rd graders next year. Also, for K does this teach the sounds as well(phonics), or does it just focus on writing?

Handwriting without tears is a writing program. They did that when dd was in ps k. I hated it and it confused dd since she was already doing some writing. We chose to use A Reason For Handwriting (I ended up suplementing at home while she was in k). Dd liked the 3 line system much better than the 2 line system that Handwriting Without Tears uses.

I use it for my dd, and it is ok. She already knew how to write her letters, but every once in a while would want to write them backwards. I don't find that it has helped her get over that habit. There is no phonics or reading. It is strictly letter and number formation.

I've been using it (print only), and I love it. It's what my son's occupational therapy center uses for all its kids, too. We didn't use the wooden letters or anything like that... just the workbooks. I'll probably use the little chalkboard next time around with my little guy. I never used the teachers' manuals, either. We won't be using it for cursive next year. We're switching to Pentime probably (maybe Abeka). I like the old-fashioned, loopy letters. I don't like the boxy-looking printed cursive.
