We are studying Apologia Flying Creatures of the 5th day and since we began the chapter on ants dd7 has been trying to collect ants saying it's an ant farm. But I'm not too keen on having them in a container that they can escape from in the house and besides she's not afraid of getting stung and lets them climb on her while she's watching them. SO to make a long story short we need to find an actual ant farm. Can anyone suggest a place to order? I would really like to have ants come with it at the same time and not have to send off for them.. I don't know anything about this sort of thing so Any suggestions or hints will be greatly appreciated. We are also looking into getting a butterfly enclosure. I want the larvae to come with the enclosure and not have to send off for them either.. Thanks so much

I think in most cases you will have to send away for larvae or ants. The ants required for an ant farm have to be a certain size or they will escape. If you have the bigger ants in your yard you can collect them. Otherwise I would send away for ants. I would check with any butterfly conservatories in the area. I have seen some larvae for sale that come with a butterfly enclosure.

When I was at Wal-Mart the other day they had butterfly and frog habitats with the coupon (that you mail in) to get your larva tadpole. They were in the toy section with all the summer toys.

Me too but, I refuse to pay $14 to ship one so I am hunting around our house for one. :) Target & Toysrus sells the insect things in the summer. That way you can save on shipping. :)
