I have to say that for me to give up the "I can make my own stuff up" was very hard for me to do. But it was the best decision for me to make. Because I can spend time with the kids instead of planing for the kids. I have a business, and the kids, and a house. I am sure having 4 more kids then I do it would take up the time I use for the business. ; ).

I love CLE because it is review, my 2nd grader does his math on his own, I check it and we review what he needs help on. My 1st grader takes a little bit more work but she still works on her own a while every day.

I am looking into Total language plus for language arts. I haven't used it, but have heard great reviews on it (some think it needs daily grams to go with it) You buy a study guide to go with a novel.

It doesn't mean you are not a great super HS mom if you buy your curriculum. : )

Actually not. Only the 9th and up math uses the Lifepac TMs, and even then CLE puts out a little booklet of their own (free) to help with the pages they changed. The new Sunrise Alg I should be ready for the coming fall 2011-12 school year. Literature/English are all Sunrise 9th and up. Bible, History/Geography, and Science for HS are Lifepacs, but CLE does their own AKs, with NO TM at all.

ONLY the math has Lifepac TM. The highschool literature and English are SUNRISE! The Bible, History&Geography, and Science are (essentially) Lifepacs, but with CLE AK. No TM at all.

OK I figured it out, i had looked at two grades in math, sorry bout the confusion. I dont get it but that is the subject I am avoiding using that style of lesson for so was looking to see what they had. I guess I will continue with MUS... since I have it for free already.

I know what you mean -- I will NOT use Lifepac math ever again!

The Sunrise Algebra I should be out for the fall.... You could call the company 1-800-776-0478 and find out for sure. If you're not ready for Alg I, all the math grades 1-8 are already Sunrise.

You don't have to have the teacher's guide and the answer keys. The answer keys are in the teacher's guide. So, you buy one or the other.

mommy2thegang, the first, second and third grade TMs have all the answers, and the 8th grade math does, but ... There was a time back when so many parents said they loved that kind of TM, so CLE said they were going to start reprinting all of them that way (the Sunrise ones, that is), BUT they wouldn't start sending those out until they'd used up all of the stock that had already been printed. I hadn't heard yet that they had started sending out the new TM/AKs yet - last I heard, they were still sending out the TMs that didn't have AKs in them.

I've just sent a message to my CLE rep, and I'll let you know what he says when I get a response.

I am still a newbie, so take my advice for what it's worth

I do make up a lot of my own curriculum, but on the subjects I've broken down and bought actual stuff the sailing tends to be MUCH smoother. Oh- I kick and scream the entire way, and we have extensive discussions about the subject (I'm never happy with the content LOL), but it does help keep me moving in the right direction, and the thinking is SOOO much easier. I think my own is much more indepth, and much more in line with what I want, but pre-set is easier on my mental health.

This doesn't mean I'm 'stuck' in it. Dd recently balked at her math book. She's a grade level 'ahead' anyway, so I took that as the opportunity to skip to something we still had to cover that we hadn't yet and I'm back to printing worksheets for her... temporarily. We will go back to the books, though, since their systematic approach makes it SOOO much easier.

The thing that has helped tremendously here was given each child individual school time. That may not be possible with your brood size (at least.. not and still find time to sleep and eat) but it has cut down on the fighting, and the time we spend together is much more instructive. It seems ridiculous to run the same documentary twice, but that cuts out squabbling, and each feels that he or she had my full attention. I don't run school from say... 9 to 2 for both. Instead, Ds has the morning, dd has the afternoon. No running between kids. They also each focus much better, and instead of our days feeling like an exhausting marathon, we manage to get everything done in a timely manner.

COOL! Here's what I got from the rep:

    > All Sunrise Math levels now have full solutions from grades 1-8. Grades 4 to 8 are in two spiral bound Teacher Guides.
    > This means that you do not need to purchase separate answer keys since all the answers and solutions are in the Teacher Guides.
    > Plus, these guides also contain a smaller copy of the student LightUnit.
    > These are not yet in the catalog but will be included in the new catalog. They are available on the website with about 20 pages available for viewing as a sample.
    > Go to this link for a sample of the 700 level: http://www.clp.org/documents/3446/original/Math_706-710_TG.pdf
    >

Since I have had mine for some time now, and haven't had any reason to buy new ones, I never looked and I didn't know they were out!
