Hello, all! We have been homeschooling for about a year now, and still have SO much to learn! We are eclectic homeschoolers, so we don't really follow a set curriculum, but still accomplish our 3 Rs. I must admit, I'm a little scared of going completely unschool, but we are very casual. I want to be as laid back and creative as possible, but I guess I'm just scared of failing them and missing something. We have also not joined a local homeschool group, and I wonder if that is in fact helpful? Any advice appreciated!

Welcome! Early on, we focused on the 3 Rs and followed the kids' interests as deep as they were desiring to go. :) We are big on history and science here, so they always seemed to be more knowledgable than other kids their age anyway. Not that we measure ourselves by others, but it sure helps you feel better about being relaxed. :)

Hey howdy hey from Tennessee! I have only been HSing since Oct. so I am really just a trainee. I have only been associated with the spot for a week or so & it has been so helpful. I love knowing everyone's opinion of curriculum before jumping into spending money on things that you aren't sure about yet.
    You will love it here.
    God bless!;)

Hi and welcome. This is our fifth year. We joined a homeschool group our first year and it really didn't work for us. Others love the groups in their areas, but we only found one here and it just was not a fit for us.

Welcome! We've been at it since Nov. 2004. We are very much like you, relaxed and eclectic, but not really unschoolers.
    Best wishes!

Hi and welcome. As to joining a homeschool group it really depends on the ones in your area. Each one is different and unique.

Hello and welcome! You can try inquiry in your area if there are homeschool groups there and try exchanging information that would help each other.

    Good luck!

Welcome to the spot! We're Christian unschoolers :) IT took a while to convince hubby they wouldn't they wouldn't fail or miss something, but he's seeing it working so he's on board now!

    Hey,

I am also in the coastal Alabama area (Daphne). We've been unschooling since my daughter turned 2 but for pre-k and kindergarten we've gone more formal. Set time for school and following a curriculum. Our curriculum for the past couple of years has mostly been workbooks and various educational videos on YouTube and other websites.

This year for kindergarten she's on a 1st grade level in reading and math so the website Lesson Pathways helps alot (free curriculum arrange your planner how you want by the week. We can set what we want to study by the week and check it of when we're done. We haven't joined a homeschool group either but I"m really interested in networking with some other moms in the area. From what I've found in my reasearch there aren't that many on this side of the bay.
