I am looking at the possibility of doing mostly unit studies next year for my son who will be in 2nd grade. I will also have an almost 4 year old and infant so I would like something all planned out for the year. Is there anything like this for unit studies? If so, could you point me in the right direction to look? Thanks so much!
Check out Currclick.com, too. They have all kinds of unit study material, some of it free! I would sit down and make a list of topics you want to cover, deciding of course if you want to focus on history, science, or maybe swap between the two. Then gather the materials you'll need for your list. I also am going with unit studies next year, but I am getting one already made through Learning Adventures. I think it is geared more towards 4-8 grades, but you may could adjust it for a 2nd grader... I'm not sure.
Konos is an entire year based on unit studies. It is COMPLETELY planned out and adaptable to various ages. I have used it. The only drawback that I saw was getting the books in time for the unit study day. Often times (I live in a very rural area), the books I needed wouldn't be available for weeks. If I ordered them ahead of time I'd get them too early. If I ordered them on time, they'd be checked out already. It was my worst problem. What I ended up doing was just using what I could get and filling in with other books from my library that were on the same topic. It worked fine. You spend a lot of time gathering materials, but absolutely no time planning lessons. They have everything from Bible memory to language arts. I'm not sure about older grades - you might have to substitute a math. I can't remember.
you might like Amanda Bennett's Download N Go series. There are 2 on sale until midnight tonight, for $5. Spring Surprises and Tremendous Trees. There are sales all the time.

I think we did a lot of unit studies when my teen was young. We also enjoyed Five In a Row, has several age levels. Might look into that. I personally love anything Literature based. http://www.fiarhq.com/
