Tell me more about this, please. I can't tell what I think just by looking at the website. I'm confused about which materials go with which books. I don't know why it's SO expensive.

We've put art on the back burner. My son doesn't like art... never has. Not even coloring. I never really cared for art except one semester in 7th grade that was amazing. I want him to learn about art, though. His motor skills are like an 80's model car with 300,000 miles on it. Runs when the tires are kicked, but doesn't run well!

We've done Abeka and Kumon in the past. I'm tired of the same old paper crafts with cut here and glue there.

    HI

We use Artistic Pursuits too. In the book it tells you what supplies are needed each week and there is a master list in the begining. What I did was stock up on the supplies through out the summer using the 40-50 % off coupons from Michaels, AC Moore and JoAnn's. It was alot cheaper than buying an entire kit. I have used k-3 book 1 and 2. I got at least one of them used which saved a ton of money.

We use Artistic Pursuits and I already bought the second one for next year. My son HATES to color and doesn't like paper crafts too much, but he really likes Artistic Pursuits. It gives a short lesson on art and an art piece and then gives an assignment based on what they learned. There's opportunity for real artistic expression and not just a craft that will look like everyone else's project. There's little cut here and glue there type of stuff. It's things like drawing in a certain style, making clay objects, painting, relief prints and paper sculpture. Best of all, if you have all the supplies on hand, it's very "open and go".

Both my children are artistically inclined. The teen used the older Artistic Pursuits during her Junior year. She really liked it and to say her skills improved immensely is putting it lightly. It really brought out her talent. My little one tried the younger one for 4-6th grade. Didn't like it. But she is very different and doesn't like much structure when doing art. She's my free bird. More like me. I think we'll try it again this year even though she is going into 7th. I want her to get the basics down and then she can free wheel it again.

We used one of their links to DickBlick to start off our art supplies.

We've enjoyed it, but art is something I let my daughter do whenever she wants (I leave out supplies for her to use), and we don't actually get to Artistic Pursuits every month. I think it's a good program though.

Do you ever find used copies of this book, or is it consumable?

    *edit*
    Nevermind. Just found some.

There's the reviews I wrote for the program. I really loved this option. My kids enjoyed it as well. :)

    There's some posts about it.

I love how it combines art history and art lessons...it's a full program to appreciate art and not just a craft book.
