As some of you know my oldest is in public high school and only my youngest is remaining at home for schooling. I have been trying to figure out how to change our homeschooling schedule to a more of a year round schedule when my son's public school went and changed their calendar for next year! They will be doing what they call a balanced schedule. He will start school August 2nd and go for 45 days and then have 2 weeks off, go another 45 days and have another 2 weeks off and so on. ( I just want to add that he really won't be getting the 2 weeks off because he plays football and this will be during football season.)

Has anyone worked on a schedule like this? I am not sure I want to take 2 weeks off every 45 days with my homeschooled son, because it seems to me that we will just be getting into something and then have 2 weeks off. I need to figure something out because I also know it is hard to "do school" when my public schooler is home. All day long I hear how it is so NOT fair, and so on. Any advice?

i say roll with the schedule. it seems to me that scheduling your subjects to take breaks during those two weeks will be easier on everyone because the older one will be home. Or only do school during the times he is at football practice and such and then done when he is home.

Or give the younger one the 1st week off and then the 2nd have only light schedule or just reading, etc...
