I'm thinking that it might be time to change the math we are using for my 7 year old. Or maybe I should just suppliment?? She is just NOT getting it and she's getting frustrated because the book is all the same stuff.. She's a workbooky type kiddo and we've been using Math u see. She is having a REALLY hard time grasping the concept of addition. I mean she understands why you would do it but she isn't doing well with the way math u see has it layed out. The blocks are confusing to her and I've tried and tried to explain. She used to Love math now she groans over it because "it's all the same". If you've used MUS you know what I mean. So I need to find something for her that is not very expensive that has a teachers manual. I want a curriculum that has a constant review but also moves onto other concepts.. Any recommendations?

OH. BTW....we used MUS with my son (middle child), he did not respond well to it at all. I switched to Lifepacs for him for 2nd & 3rd Grade and he did much better. Now we're using Teaching Textbooks for 4th Grade and he's doing really well. :)

I have to second Horizons. I used that for dd for 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade math. It is really well laid out, lots of review/reinforcement.

We use CLE math and really enjoy it. It's made my math hater DD into a math tolerant kid and it's very budget friendly too. You can order just a couple of the Lightunits to try out too:)

I second the CLE. It's very spiraled, so there's constant review in every lesson. Also, there are only a few items of each kind of skill, so they don't get bored. DO use the diagnostic before buying! www.clp.org

Have you tried asking other mom's using Math U See on their facebook page? I know lots of mom's share idea that really help there. Or you might call the help line at Math U See. The number is in the front of the books. It may be worth getting some idea's like these that could help you through this issue.

Horizons looks good.. I may try it.. I was also looking at singapore math. On both of them she will need the second grade book??? She hasn't even got through the 1st grade book of MUS.. I'm confused. Maybe she's doing better than I thought. She's really bored with her math. I'm thinking a suppliment may be the best thing right now. Something to change things up a bit.

We used Horizons and loved it, until the colors just got to be too much for my DS to handle. We are now using CLE and LOVE it! Both are rigorous enough without being too fast, and they both are spiral in their approach so there is enough review.
    HTH!

www.singaporemath.com We really loved the primary series from Singapore math. My daughter hated manipulatives as well. Well, she liked to play with them for other stuff - just not with her math. LOL

Another CLE user here. We started out with MUS last year and switched this year to CLE because all my daughter wanted to do was play with the manipulatives. She was completely bored by the DVD.

I'm going to suggest two things that are a little bit different. My child is not a book learning. She doesn't learn well out of books. She needs her school to be interactive with her. She likes it to move, she loves color, and sound. My daughter doesn't like to repeat if the repeat is obvious. To that end we looked for a curriculum that would fit that bill. Time4Learning is what we use. The math has plenty of reenforcement, but not obvious repetition, if that makes sense. My other suggestion is games. Kids love games and the more fun they are, the less they realize they are learning, reviewing and packing down information. Try Learning Games For Kids.
    Hope these help.
