Hi, I am new here and looking for advice on switching from Horizons Math to CLE Math. My son is in 3rd grade. We've used Horizons Math since kindergarten. I have been happy with it...but dislike the lack of teaching on their part. My son recently told me that he hates the math program he's using. I have used this weekend to do research and I came up with CLE maybe being a good switch. Has anyone switched from Horizons to CLE? If so, I would appreciate your thoughts. Pamela Jones nathansmommy
I have used Horizon like , no love it. But I have heard a lot of good things about CLE lately. so lots of people here should come up with info for you on that one.
We used Horizons through the beginning of 3rd grade, where my son began melting down every day. Long story short, it was just too busy - too much color, too many pictures. So I finally found/tried CLE and he LOVES it! They are very much on the same level, with them both being slightly ahead of most other maths. One of the things I love about CLE is that in each lesson you get a new concept introduced, you do a little practice with it, then you go the We Remember section and do review work, which my son needs even though he does very good in math. Plus, the lightunits are only a few bucks each, so if you try it I suggest just ordering 1-2, as they cover 3 weeks at a time. Then if he doesn't like it you won't be out much. But I would certainly give it at least a full lightunit to decide.
We use CLE and love it. I haven't used Horizons so I can't compare. We switched from Math U See to CLE this year. My daughter is doing so well with it that I ordered all the other subjects from CLE too.
