hi, this is my first post so sorry in advance for any mistakes. i'm going into 12th grade next year, and i'll also be starting classes at a community college to get credits that i'll transfer at the end of senior year. however, i haven't set foot in a classroom since 8th grade (and that was a charter school), and i was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to go about transitioning from studying by yourself for three years to all of a sudden taking college classes. thanks

Well its going to depend on what kind of classes you will take some of them may just require self study other classes have group projects requiering a few students at a time working on a project. Just be your self, talk to the people in the classes and you will soon see its easy to join a group for a project, or get ideas from others on how the class is going, comunity classes are generally small. Don't be intimidated to speak up and give your thoughts in class. -- by the way it was alwas a favorite place of mine to study in the cafeteria instead of the library, or other common area, grassy area or such, where things are more relaxed.

by the way welcome to the homeschool spot. We are mostly a bunch of mom's yacking it up over all kinds of things, and occasionally a student stops by and all questions are welcome, hope we can help you when you need it, feel free to give your opinion or advice when you can, or play the this or that or random letter games. Good luck on your last year of highschool. And first year of college.

I think you'll do just fine! College is pretty much set up to where you go to class, listen and take notes, and then you're on your own to read the book, study, and actually learn the stuff. The kids that have a difficult time are the ones who expect the instructor to do it all for them, and don't expect to put in any time outside of class.

Also, if your instructor says: in this class you don't have to be here every day, just for the tests, as fun as that sounds, go to class!

To be honest, I think you have an advantage because of it. College is so much different than other schooling. I think you will do great because you have been used to doing things on your own, which gives you an advantage over others.

I agree with Amy and Jackie you will do fine. Just be yourself and you will do fine.

My son is a Senior in college. He NEVER set foot in any classroom other than in our home. He has told me that homeschoolers are timid at first, but because they never learned to slack off, and want to do their best, they do fine. If you are having trouble in a class, find a study group and/or get a relationship with the professor if he/she will be helpful (some are not). Also, if you have trouble with a class, Seek out the help that is provided at the college. Most people don't take advantage of the help that is available. BTW my son will be graduating cum laude. Homeschoolers do great!
