    Hello everyone,

My wife and I are considering home-schooling our 6 year old son.
We also have a 3 yr old daughter.

My son goes to a private Christian school, but has been having issues focussing, and we are looking into this option.

Looking to get in touch with similar folks, and also those living in the neighbourhood!

Focus issues are totally normal for a boy of his age :) Thats one of the reason we started homeschooling our 6 year old boy last year. It has been the best decision. I have seen so much improvement in him emotionally. And focus 'issues' are a thing of the past except for the rare occassion. Welcome to the Spot :)

Welcome. We have three boys - 8, 6, and 4. We began homeschooling for different reasons, but we have observed how our boys would be having many of the same issues your son is facing, were they in a traditional classroom.

    Welcome!
We've been homeschooling since 2004. My kids are 11 and 13. As a former public school teacher, I can assure you that nearly all 6 year old boys have issues with staying focused.
Best wishes with your decision process!

You are absolutely right, Jackie. I should have qualified my statement with "on schoolwork." :D

Now if we could make all schoolwork center around LEGOS or STARWARS we'd have it made!

    welcome!

i'm new here and my dd9 has a focusin issue with her ps. in our case, they want to medicate her and when we and private evaluator deferred medication. that's when bad situation got worse. my opinion is nowsaday these educators abuse availablity of medication to their advantage. it's disgrace. so my 2cents is you're smart to plan to hs him as the issue arise unlike for my dd.

anyway, i also believe things happen for a reason. so i embrace the journey that brought to us by this misfortune incident created by ps.

    good health and happiness!

welcome to the forum, lots of good information here. Ditto on the comments about 6 year old boys, we have 5 kids, 3 boys and 2 girls and all three boys were not as "in" to school in the younger years as the girls. Homeschooling gave us the flexibility to make education fit them rather than them fitting the education setting. Good luck, you'll get lots of good advice here.
