The though of teaching Kinder terrifies me! Seriously hide under the bed, scared to death.

I tried and tried to teach my oldest and 2nd child to read. And had NO luck. Both learned to read very quickly in kindergarten and loved it. (Texas is all day kinder vs. half day here in WA.)

I'm thinking of sending Fudge and Finn to kinder and then HS them after that......

We used the Explode the Code primers A, B and C and then moved on to book 1 when he was ready. We used Spectrum Little Critter Reading books we picked up at a book store also. For math I used Bob Jones and my kiddo loved it. It is a cute farm theme and moved fairly gently. I let him do as much as he wanted each day and he is now half way through BJ math 1 (which has a clown and circus theme). Other subjects are tag-a-long with big brother for Considering God's Creation (although we often stray from this and do our own thing for science) and Galloping the Globe (followed this one a bit better, but not they way I expected to) or unit studies we did on our own based on interests.

I've been wondering what to do with my daughter for months. She will be 5 in October, but misses our PS kindergarten cutoff date by months (August 1st). I plan to keep her in with her age mates as far as what "grade" she's in, but I want to start kindergarten work now. She wants to do school with us and is ready, but she'll be in a private Pre-K program a few days a week. After looking at Oak Meadow, My Father's World and Heart of Dakota, I really just want to get Sonlight but can't justify spending that much for PK-K right now, especially since she won't be home everyday.

Here's what I've decided to do:
The Reading Lesson-I plan to start gently teaching her to read this summer. We started ETC A, B and C last year but stopped because I thought she wasn't totally ready for it.
Math-U-See Primer-She already did half of this and we'll just keep working on it when she's interested.
Artistic Pursuits Book 2 with her brother-She joined him for art this year in Book 1.
P.E.-She does gymnastics and dance and they may let her join the homeschool P.E. this year since she'll be 5.
Writing-I'll print off copywork or let her use some workbooks.
    Literature from the library
Apologia Zoology 2 with her brother when she's interested.
We'll put off any formal history/social studies or geography since she won't be home everyday.
