Hello My DD is 3 1/2 and she does go to preschool once a week and then she's home with me the other days. I have one preschool book called "We Care" I was looking on rainbowresource and searched Pre-K and a lot of stuff came up. I also saw the BrainQuest workbook and that looks like a neat one she might like. She is a very visual learner but also learns a lot through music and such. I'm not looking for anything really strict but just some stuff that we can start a routine of doing a little "school" work each day so that when we start for Kindergarten it's not a complete shock lol. also to get me some practice too haha Did you use anything for your preschoolers? anything you really liked? anything you really disliked? doesn't have to be workbooks. can be anything really
I love starfall.com and letteroftheweek.com for my preschoolers. I also just ordered a book called "Slow and Steady Get Me Ready." I'm excited to see how that looks. It comes highly recommended by several friends.
There are several blogs out there that use Tot Packs that are really great itsybitsylearners.com, homeschoolcreations.blogspot.com, and 1plus1plus1equals1.blogspot.com are just a few. They provide freebies and theme based packs that are a lot of fun. We will be using these a lot. Also preschoolpalace.org is really good Hope that helps.
I love preschoolbystormie.com and letteroftheweek.com, but really we prefer to be completely interest lead and life learning at such an early age. We read lots of books, watch fun things like Sid the Science Kid and Word World and just have fun.
Thank you for the suggestions everyone I will definitely check ou t those websites. I did check out letteroftheweek and I really like that and think my daughter will enjoy that. haven't had a chance to look at the other ones but I'm definitely going to bookmark them. Yeah we do a lot of "let her interests lead the way" learning especially considering her age... but sometimes (especially rainy days) she just gets bored and these things will definitely help me fill in the spaces BTW my daughter loves sid the science kid too lol she likes to play the games on the website they have too.
We did lapbooks with my daughter for preschool and she loved them. We would pick a subject and head to the library for books. I would print off lapbook templates and things related to the subject. I tried to find somewhere that we could go to visually see what we were learning about. We took a few trips to a local farm, once to see the animals, another time to pick strawberries, another trip for peaches etc... We studied construction vehicles and packed our lunch and sat on lawn chairs in a parking lot. We did this when they were repaving the road down the street. We did a lapbook on skeletons and muscles so we disected a turkey to see how they all come together to form a skeleton (complete with rubber gloves, hand sanitizer and every precaution to guard against salmonella!). My daughter is a visual learner and seeing and doing help her learn. With my older daughter we were studying battlefields, with one days notice we packed up the car and drove 600 miles to visit them in person.
"Busy Bee" and "Totally Tots" are two websites that I absolutely love! Lots of ideas to print out. All areas of academics and crafts.
I think comprehensive curriculum of basic skills is good. Horizons is also another one I . But it sounds to me that you may like Teach My Preschooler kit. It's inexpensive, hands-on learning that would complement what your child already receiving once a week. www.teachmy.com
"Totally Tots" is an amazing website. My daughter had fun with the things I prepared for her. I got them all at Totally Tots. Thanks for posting about it, hillbillywoman.
I did teh brainquest workbooks with both boys. They worked well, and were interesting for them! I also have a book called, "Everything your Preschooler Needs to Know" and it's just filled with stories, poems and songs. <3 it! I also love starfall.com We are also going to do a Alphabet and Number lapbook/scrapbook.
