My kids have been up to date far as I can keep account just because I want them to stay well, but now they are making it a requirement for private home schools in Ca to keep the record, official record of shots... does your state do this?
Not here in AZ. The only thing I ever turned in to the state was a copy of their birth certificates, and a notarized intent form.
I haven't heard of this here in CA (we live here too), but I know you can always select the "opt out" or "exemption" option for religious reasons. We did that for the latest pertussis vaccine.
I always keep my kids shots up to date. But here there has been no request from our dept of ed to find out.
We are in NC and are required to keep a record of all immunizations on hand along with attendance records. Nobody has ever asked to see it.
No, it is not required here in KY. I do keep them up to date, though, and I have my children's medical records, so if they did start to require it here, I would be able to show them. I really hope they don't though.
We are only required to turn in our declaration of intent annually and attendance sheets monthly. The only other thing we are supposed to keep on file is standardized test results every three years starting at the third grade. No birth certificates and no immunization forms. I also keep my children up to date for health reasons. The doctor's office gives me copies free of charge whenever I need them, so I don't see the need to file them here at home. Especially since we only live about three blocks from the doctor's office and hospital.
I think we're probably supposed to, but like anything, it's not really regulated in TX. Besides, it's extremely easy to get a state waiver in TX.
No... here in Ontario all we have to do is say that we're homeschooling and we don't hear from anyone ever again. We're legally obligated to provide "satisfactory instruction", but according to a lawyer friend of mine proving it generally only becomes an issue if the family is already in front of the courts for another reason, like neglect or abuse. When I homeschooled, I pretty much forgot about vaccines. *blush* Then when the kids wanted to go back into the system, I realized I needed to get them up to date or the school wouldn't allow them through the front door. I'll tell you - ten year olds moan a LOT more about getting their shots than toddlers EVER do. You'd have thought my son's arm was broken, the way he carried on!
Here in PA we are required to have them up to date, and though the law doesn't say the district needs to see it, most of them say they have to see it. This is what I turn in now: I object to the following procedures for my child(ren) on religious grounds or on the basis of strong moral or ethical conviction similar to a religious belief: _______ immunizations _______ medical examinations _______ dental examinations Sincerely, Date: ____________ We do get all our immunizations, we do go for regular check ups at the dr, dentist and eye dr., BUT I don't feel the school needs to know our business.
From: Roy Hanson’s Private & Home Educators of California and HSLDA Tdap Booster Immunization for Pertussis (Whooping Cough) NEW Required Documentation for All Students Some changes in the law go into effect this July 1, 2011 that all homeschooling parents and PSP directors will need to act on. These changes are: (1) An additional Tdap immunization booster shot against whooping cough has been added to the list of immunizations required, unless exempted, for all students in 7th through 12th grades (including those who are being homeschooled under the private school option.) (2) There has been a change in documentation required for a student’s records kept by their school of enrollment if a student receives this immunization. (3) There is a change in documentation required for a student’s records if the student does not receive this immunization, either because the parents choose to have their child exempted with the Personal Beliefs Exemption, or if the student has received a medical exemption letter from a physician. AB 354 was signed into law in September 2010. It requires that all students be vaccinated against whooping cough with the Tdap booster on or after their 7th birthday as a condition for being admitted or advanced to the 7th through the 12th grade beginning this July 1, 2011. All references to the term “student” in this article refer only to students being admitted or advanced to the 7th through the 12th grade. Records Required Every public and private school in California, including those based in the home, continues to be required to maintain an up-to-date copy of a California School Immunization Record (form PM 286B—aka “Blue Card”) as a part of each student’s permanent school record (i.e., cumulative file—see Sections 49062 & 49068 of the Education Code). The PM 286B form is available from your local county health department or you can download it for printing. To implement AB 354, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has created two new forms, which are to be used to document either that the student has been immunized against whooping cough with a Tdap booster (i.e., tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) or that the student is exempted from this required Tdap immunization. There are two possible exemptions from this new requirement: (1) the parent has completed a “Personal Beliefs Exemption” form CDPH 8261 (1/11) for the student, or (2) a medical exemption letter for the student has been received and is signed by a physician.
So even though you do get your immunizations, you can file a "Personal Beliefs Exemption" (section 3 up there) and you are good to go, you don't need to show anyone anything.
ok, good thanks! I thought that is what it was saying but sometimes I get lost in legal jargon and can't figure things out lol. I sent it on to my dh too he signs us up each year ... I just do the hard stuff the schooling, the finding what to use the running them ragged with PE, Band etc, lol
I got a letter from Kaiser Hospital, where we have insurance, stating something similar to this. It also showed that my dd14 was current. I didn't receive one for my son so he must be in violation Other than that letter I have heard nothing about this requirement.
when we had kaiser I had to tell them that some of the shots they wanted to give my dd were not gonna happen. for instance they wanted her to get another shot of chicky pox vac. She had already had two for this then had the chicken pox worse than anyone I have ever known... I don't THINK she needed that Lol.
SC doesn't require it for hs. I kept my kids up to date until I was told my dd had to retake a set of 3 because once was given a coulpe weeks before she turned one. How ridiculous. It may be an issue when she goes to enter college, but we'll deal with that then. Also, we're waiting on the new STD shots that they are encouraging teen girls to have. I'll explain it to her when she gets really interest in boys and let her help decide if she gets them. I hear they are painful and only protect against a handful out of hundreds of STDs. If she chooses to stay a virgin until marriage (which I hope she does) and her husband did the same, then it won't be an issue.
This shot is also banned in most of the world for causing a high percentage of recipients to become sterile, gravely ill, or die.
