We've always done VBS. I usually work in it, but we're in the process of changing churches this year so I'm not too worried about having to volunteer as I doubt we'll be settled in a new church in time for me to do it. LOL Mine have always enjoyed it thoroughly.
My sisters and I always went to VBS and so did my husband and his sister. We always go and I help every year.
Yes. They go at Mom and Dad's church; our church doesn't usually have one. And a church not far from us does a Soccer Camp instead. It's free, and does a wonderful job incorporating Bible lessons in with learning soccer.
I teach at mine, and yes, the kids attend (not in my class). Our is set up so that parents are required to stay. (There's a class for adults, too.) It's not like a drop-off babysitting service or anything like that.
My kids have gone every year, and until last year, I have always worked VBS. This year our church is not doing VBS, but having a children's conference thing. I think I'm going to send my children to one at another church close by. I hate the thought of no VBS!
My kids have always attended our church's VBS, and another neighborhood church usually has one the kids go to. My kids love it, and I usually work at ours, too.
Besides VBS, our pastor holds a sports camp in the summer. He brings in someone who can give the kids pointers and some coaching in a certain sport. The sport is different each day. In the afternoons he takes the kids swimming. There are several volunteers taht help with sports camp. I don't help because Babyboy is too young to go, but the kids that do go love it.
Our church is doing a sports camp this year. We're located in the inner city, and they are really hoping this will draw the kids. We'll be doing basketball, soccer, and cheerleading. I really think it will be a good match for the neighborhood. I won't be taking part in it, nor will my children, but that's a totally different thread .
Our older two kids have helped with VBS, but I doubt I will send our littles to VBS. Our church is part of a town wide VBS program, and the churches that participate are all over the place theologically. It is held at a different church each year, and the helpers are from all different churches. I'm not really sure why our church doesn't just have its own VBS, it seems like we are the one church that has little kids, and I really don't like the ecumenical thing, and I don't know the helpers from the other churches.
Ems has been a part of VBS since she was in Kindergarten. This year she will be a helper. She has always enjoyed the time making friends and just having a fun time. Even the adults seem to really enjoy VBS.
Yep. Both kids do and always love it. We usually go to the VBS at our church and we also try to get them involved in another local church's just for something extra to do. This year our church is doing it differently though, so we will see how they like it. It use to be during the day M-F. This year we are doing it W, Th, and Fri in the evenings, and it's 'family style', which means the whole family attends. We'll see how it goes. I wasn't too keen on the change at first, but I am open to trying things differently. They are also supplying light dinners each night before VBS starts...hot dogs, etc. and a marshmallow roast after the last night of VBS.
My church is the only church I've ever attended that does VBS. My DH's church has a summer lunch program for the community, but my kids don't enjoy it that much. This will be the first time they go to VBS, and their theme is "High Seas Expedition", which sounds like a lot of fun. They generally have the teens in the church volunteer with it to help build life skills and to keep them involved, but all parent's are encouraged to volunteer. I'm not this year because I'm still so new, and my 1 yr old may not be cooperative. I plan on volunteering once she is old enough to go which is 3 yrs old.
We sent ours, in fact they loved it so much that now we put them on for other people! I write them and the kids perform and help with crafts and games! Its great as a ministry and they have such a fun time!
Love VBS! We're actually flying back to the States in July for our old church's VBS. (It's dd1's b-day present!)
I haven't yet. We haven't attended a church that had one. I've not seen notices around here for other churches either. I would send them if they wanted to go.
