What are your opinions on Easy Grammar for high school specifically for grade 10? My ds is doing grade 9 ABeka this year, but I don't think he has totally grasped it all. We were planning to do SOS or AOP Lifepacs for Language Arts next year. Any thoughts? :D

We are using Easy Grammar Plus for 8th next year. I hope it will work for us. Don't know about Lifepacs. My older daughter hated Lifepacs, so we didn't try them after that first year. I think that was her 8th grade year or maybe 9th.

I've only ever used the Plus level. But I'm starting to consider using the 4th level of EG next year. I definitely will be using the 4th level of Daily Grams. The EG focuses ONLY on the parts of speech/parts of sentences. I really do like how they insist on learning to recognize prepositional phrases and "eliminate" them from the sentences before looking for the subject/verb, and I've incorporated this into my teaching (for older kids who have had prepositions already) no matter what main curriculum we're using.

Yes. I've really liked it, though my kids were younger when they did it. It would work fine for an older child, too.

I don't think it would progress fast enough and teach enough to really satisfy a 10th grader. If she doesn't mind something a little dry Jensen's might be a good choice. It's thorough, uses examples from literature and moves fairly quickly. Magic Lens from MCT and Harvey's might be some other choices.

Even a lower level of R&S would cover more grammar than many high school grammar books!

My 3 kids did Easy Grammar Plus in high school at home. Two went on to college and scored very high on their English Placement Tests. One chose not to attend college, but he is a great communicator and very literate. He would have done well in college. He chose full-time work over college and is doing great.
