I homeschooled my son last year for kindy, but we were very relaxed about it and spent the year exploring different curriculums and seeing what worked for us. We are starting 1st grade next week (we are moving in Sept, so I want to get a few months in so we can take a month or two off to settle into our new home.). Since this is our first reportable year, I want to make sure I have my ducks in a row....at least when we start! (I know we will veer off course in our journey) This is what I have set for the year Math: Singapore Handwriting: A reason for handwriting Spelling: A reason for spelling Reading/Phonics: Ordinary Parent's Guide to Reading, Teach Your Child to read in 100 Easy Lessons, Scholastic Phonics Reading Program/ Systematic Sequential Phonics (he does better if we switch phonics around often) Religion: Bible, various devotionals SS/Science: Winter Promise Hideways in History I think that's it. Am I missing something essential? Thanks!
Looks good to me, but be sure to check your state guidelines to see if you're required to teach things like health or art.
Hi and welcome. You may want some sort of language arts. Teaching them what a sentence is, the parts of a sentence, the rules of sentences, that sort of thing. Evan Moore products have first grade workbooks that cover that nicely. I am sure you could find something a currclick.com I used Alpha Omega over the years with my children and Lifepacs work nice for that sort of thing. How about teaching him about the community workers?
The 100 ez lessons covers a little bit of LA. I don't think I would worry about it other then that much. It was plenty for my DC. Until we started 2nd grade. I know all kids are different, but if we would of had to much writing my ds would have revolted. We did oral spelling, and things like that because he was easily frustrated with all the writing task. Other then that I think it is great! Have fun!
