I am strongly considering doing unit studies for early elementary. I have been doing my own history this year (kids around the world) and it has quickly turned into unit studies. The kids are having so much fun and learning and retaining info (even my DD3). I was wondering if anyone used unit studies and, if so, which ones you liked. I am considering KONOS Vol 1. I am really thinking of doing Paths of Exploration and the other two levels for American history in late elementary. I would love to hear your thoughts on unit studies, especially if you have a certain unit study you like. While I would love to continue to make up my own, this has been A LOT of work and I don't know if I could do this year in, year out!

So far I have done my own too, but it was only K. This year I'm doing a curriculum for math and one for spelling, but I'll try to work the rest into a unit study. I think I can do it one more year, but after that I'll have 2 kids schooling, so it may be more difficult.

I'll be watching this thread for ideas too!

I was considering unit studies for my children this year. But, we took a different turn. But, I was really interested in Learning Adventures. Looks like a fantastic program. My husband didn't want me to do unit studies so we went with something else. I like the idea of the Kono's but didn't have the time to figure it out and what I was looking for out of it.

:D We love unit studies and I make them up according to seasons and what the kids are interested in.

I was going to say that we're doing Learning Adventures this coming year. I, too, wanted to take advantage of the fun stuff while we can!
I hope the KONOS works well for you! :D

Aren't Learning Adventures for a little bit older kids? My oldest will be in 1st when we start using it. I have looked at Learning Adventures and it looks really fun!

I think elementary should be as fun as possible. I honestly see my kids learning more from unit studies right now than I ever imagined. When we do a workbook program, it goes in one ear and out the other!

Oh, yeah, it is geared for 4-8 grade, though you can tweak it a bit to include those younger. But for that much younger, I think I'd go with a lighter unit study.
