How do you determine what work you want to keep from each school year? I literally have all of ds's 5K, 1st, and 2nd grade papers. It's time to clean out. I would like some sort of system as to what we keep. I am planning on taking pictures of the kids art work that is special and making an album of that but I'm really not sure what to do with actual school work. We live in GA so I'm not "required" to keep much. Any ideas will be appreciated!

I would keep your favorites and toss the rest. I keep a few things and I hang on to any finished workbooks. We don't use many worksheets, but I only keep around a few of them.

After years of keeping everything, or almost everything, I learned to just let things go after awhile.

Deena taught me to choose favorites of the kids and your favs then put them in a binder with that year on the title page for each child , then they have years of their stuff in a book an can go back and see how they have changed each year as you put the good stuff in the next year.

I generally keep on one month's worth of papers at a time, then at the end of the month I choose no more than 3 papers from each subject for their portfolios. I also keep all tests, and they do monthly handwriting samples.

I am not required to keep anything, but I do.

I keep original stuff- stories and pictures. Journal entries.

    I really don't keep anything that's question-and-answer, or worksheets.

I end up with far too much, as well, but I don't mind... I still have an envelope around here that my son made for the toothfairy when he was five ;), and my avatar was drawn by my dd. :D

I like the binder idea and going thru things monthly! The piles in my cabinet are a little over whelming. I don't normally have much trouble letting things go but with the kids stuff I feel like it's irreplaceable so I stress about throwing it away and wanting it back. Does that make sense?

Yeah, I'm not the right person to ask. I have all their work and projects in bankers boxes with lids from Kindergarten on up! It's organized but it's really not necessary, I know. This year I put all their work in accordian folders (one folder for each child) and taken pictures of them doing art or experiments and put those in a photo album so that has cut down some on the space issue. I need to go even less than that. One day Ill go through the bankers boxes and throw out worksheets and other non-necessities.

We don't keep very much... only what we're required by the state to keep. Other than that, we only keep 1 or 2 really original journal/essay type things.

This is ME! While I know it's not required in AZ, I still feel compelled to have proof "just in case". I've got everything in bankers boxes in a closet. I assume they will be moved to the garage in a year or two. Even though I know they may never be looked at again!

I have a hard time throwing stuff away, But I think I shal scan everything to a disk and then throw it away. I will still have proof on the disk.

We are getting ready to move out of state soon, so we have been trying to down size.
