Currently we have unlimited streaming with unlimited DVD's (1 out at a time) for $9.99/month.

They are now changing their pricing to unlimited streaming $7.99/month AND unlimited DVD's (1 @ a time) $7.99/month. So the total month charge will be $15.98!!!

Am I the only one who finds this a bit greedy on the company's part? It's a 60% increase ... and they dont offer the same movies on either option. Alot of the documentaries and classics we want are only availible on DVD, while other things are only availible streaming.

Is anyone changing their plan? Or are there other options out there?

We are going to keep our plan for the time being only because Idon't know of any other option out there. I do find it disappointing though. :/

Not only is it disappointing, I think it's a mistake considering all of the promotions Blockbuster has been running.

I think it stinks since we just had a $2 increase 6 months ago.
We are going to the plan you have since we have the 2 DVDs out ( w/ Blu Ray) and that is going up to $22.98...no way am I paying that!
When better 1st run movies become available for streaming and/or Redbox comes out with more TV shows ( like HBO shows) on their kiosks then we will go to streaming only.

well i was thinking about going to the DVD 1 at a time option, along with the streaming. Right now we just have the unlimited streaming. But at that price i'll stick to what we already have.

Is the unlimited streaming going up too? I guess it will be next if it isn't going up already. Sigh!

Yes, I noticed this as well and it's very frustrating. I wonder if we all called to complain if they'd listen? I know that in the past Netflix customer service has been wonderfully accommodating to us when we've had issues.

They have closed their customer service lines most hours of the day (because of high call volume over this) and if you DO reach a representative, you get half-hearted responses about how this is necessary. There have been major reports in the news about this.

What ticks me off is that we now have ZERO rental store in our city. Netflix has put every one of them out of business. We do have Redbox, but no Blockbuster or Family Video or anything anymore.

I've heard many people nationwide say the same thing. Netflix waited until they were your only option.

I'd like to just cancel it, becuase I think any business that thinks they can implement a 60% increase is taking its customers for granted. They think they have the market all sewn up. My husband says that we'll keep the streaming; we seldom order videos anyway. If we want a DVD, we get it from Redbox. We could rent from Redbox 8 times before spending what Netflix is charging for their DVD mail service; that's more DVDs than I could get from them under their economy plan if we watched and returned them as fast as we could.

I am going to keep the streaming through Netflix for the time being, but I am also going to add Blockbuster for the DVD's and games... it will cost us a total of about $23 a month, but that will only be $8 more than we are paying now and will give us games, too, which I've been wanting to get for my DH and DS. I am hoping Blockbuster will get streaming on game consoles soon, as they only stream to computers and such right now. Once that happens I will be with Blockbuster all the way.

Will there be an increase in the streaming-only package that they have? That's currently all that we have but I really haven't heard a lot about the price increase. I may cancel it because we don't use it enough to merit a 60% increase. A lot of what we would like to see isn't even available through streaming. We probably do more RedBox than anything at this point.

I'm canceling the DVD's. We'll just use Red Box for those. If it continues to go up, I'll cancel the streaming, too.

I am going to cancel the streaming we just watch tv shows that aren't on streaming anyways. It makes me upset too, they would have been better off just adding a dollar or two every couple of months.

We are keeping ours the same. $20 a month (unlimited streaming and 2 DVDs) is still less than we pay for just 2 of us to go to the movies, and we use it soooo much for school.

We also use Redbox a lot and will continue to do that too..lol

The way I understand it, the price increase is to cover the costs of the contracts with movie studios. Netflix wants to add more to its streaming but the studios are jacking up the cost to do so. So its not so much Netflix being greedy but the studios.

With that being said, Netflix better add some better streaming choices or its just not worth it.

I am thinking of keeping the streaming at 7.99 just in case they get better and using Redbox or Blockbuster for better rentals.

We are also thinking of just keeping the streaming and renting from Redbox when we really want to rent. We also have a fabulous library to borrow DVD's from, it just takes awhile on the wait list.

I kind of have to disagree on the streaming..I think they have a great selection of newer movies. Secretariat, Skyline, The Fighter, Camelot ( 2011 series), The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Alice in Wonderland ( Johnny Deep) , Iron Man 2 and Prince of Persia all came out in 2010/2011.
The 2010-2011 A&E, History Channel, HBO, Showtime series (like The Kennedy's w/ Katie Holmes and Greg Kinnear GREAT) are mostly all out and ready. The Startz Plays is like having Startz channel whenever you want and the new documentaries are great (watch Restrepo great war doc).
Yes they have ALOT of old stuff but its great (to me). Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night is Family Movie day..we pick funny, campy or a series we liked growning up for our kids to watch. Plus I'm glad they have older stuff because some great movies I have watched lately I would have passed up on Redbox or Blockbuster and I get to watch some 80's movies I missed out on growing up because my parents wouldn't let me watch them :)
Right now we have an Office marathon going ( every night we watch 2 episodes) and this weekend we watched UHF ( with Weird Al in it) and The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones (loved that series).
The new documentaries they have are great, new TV series ( Being Human from BBC America is a fav, but it is racy) and the workout shows are wonderful.
The key is going on there on Tuesday and Fridays , that is when they add new items ( not always on Fridays but every once in a while they post them on that day because more movies are coming out on Fridays instead of just Tuesdays.) Also always rate your movies, they will recommend more for you.
