Is there a big difference in the first and second editions of Apologia science? What are they and do you think they benefit the student to the point that one would be better off using that edition instead?
Will you be doing a co-op, or just using them yourself? There's enough of a difference that the co-ops around here won't let you use 1st editions anymore.
Don't know too much about this except to say that two years ago with General Science, a group of us (about 5 families) did the labs together, and we decided to go with the older edition. All I can say is that we had a great year and DD didn't have any difficulties with Physical Science or Apologia Biology and did well with standardized tests. Apologia has always been helpful with my questions so I wouldn't hesitate to ask them about this.
It can be a little difficult (but not impossible) if you're with a co-op. That's because the pages are different, or the questions might be a little different. But if it's just you, I wouldn't bother. The material is the same.
I think the 2nd reorganized the chapters into a different sequence a little, may have reworded a paragraph or two for clarity, and maybe added a little color here and there (not sure about that), and the TM shows point values for tests for you. But I think that's about it. If you're using it just yourselves at home, first edition will do fine.
I agree. I have no problem using older editions like that. You just have a hard time reselling them. (But you can donate them on places like curriculumshare.com.)
That's where this one came from! I was so excited to get it. I also was able to snag the biology and Chemistry sets too. We used Biology last year and was going to do Chem this year but DS will be returning to public school.. They will be relisted on there once we are done with them..
Thanks, If it's just a few more graphics and the lessons are reorganized than I'll use the one I have and save the $$ for something else.
