I'm confused. We've done Sonlight before, 2 years ago, (F Eastern Hemisphere) and want to do a one year American History program this year. Sonlight has 2 programs for this. Core DE which is grades 4-7th and Core 100 which is 7-11th. My daughter is going into 7th and will turn 12 in two weeks. So she is on the very top of one plan and the very bottom of another. I'm just not sure which to use. I've read through both lists of books and some on the younger one look too young and some on the older one look too old.

Any thoughts of experiences on either program?

I would go with Core 100. Which books do you think are too old? I know that have changed up alot of the core 100 readers for this year.

    I'm no help, but . . .

I am in the same boat. LOL! I was wondering which core to get as well for my seventh grader. Hopefully someone will help us out soon!

Sonlight sent me a sample of both curriculums.

    http://www.sonlight.com/uploads/3-week-samples/core/100-3-weeksample.pdf

The more I read through both, the more I'm leaning toward Core 100. It will require a bit more of my time, explaining things she doesn't understand yet but I think in the end, a bit harder curriculum is better for her age. The other seems a bit dumbed down, if that makes sense?

Books i found a bit older for her would be:
    Cross and a Switchblade
    To Kill a Mockingbird

I'm sure I can modify the list we read a bit and maybe these will be okay. I will have to read them first. But I find in planning schooling I tend to choose younger stuff for my kids. I think of them as 5 still, kwim? lol This time I think I might go with the older version. The worst that can happen is, we have to cut out some books or take longer to do it than the original plan.

I do not know about Cross and a Switchblade but I would think you could do To Kill a Mockingbird. You would need to make sure you are really going over the discussion questions. But then again the great thing about hsing is you can take things out that won't work for you.

To Kill a Mockingbird I had my 10/11th grader read, so I was thinking 'for my 7th grader?!' Just seemed old! lol
