I would contact MENSA and ask them. They only accept certified IQ tests, so I assume they'd be in the know. I've heard the tutoring center in Springfield does them, but I can't even remember what it's called (it's a national chain).

I think Sylvan is on Independence. I don't for certain that they do them, but I've heard.

I have a friend who is a local Mensa member. I can get contact info for them if you'd like.

    Springfield

I've never been to Hannibal, but I've been planning to take the boys once they are old enough to read Tom Sawyer.

He's not certified to administer IQ tests. He's an accountant who happens to be a genius. lol.

I'm not sure whether this is true in all states, but here the school system is required to test anybody of school age when their parents or someone else requests it, whether they're enrolled or not. When I worked in public schools, we tested quite a few kids from private schools, not so many homeschoolers (there weren't many! and what few there were didn't necessarily want their kids tested). Now, the ps team might not hop to fill your request quickly, so it would be "when they have time", but they're required to do it and give you a report you understand and an oral explanation of the written report. Naturally, they'll probably try to talk you into enrolling your child in the public school, or say you're "obligated" to enroll your child, but you're NOT in any way.

When I worked in ps, I worked with a lot of psychologists, and found that as part of their degree program, they have to give a certain number of IQ and other tests (under supervision at first). So it's possible that if the university has a psychology department, you might find someone there who could test him for you. Or, if there are psychologists in the phone book, you might call and ask, but they will cost money!

Do you live near a university with a psychology department? They should have professors or graduate students who will be able to give an IQ test.

Call you pediatrician and ask them where your state's Child Development Center(CDC) is located. In MS it is located at the Children's hospital. They did my son's IQ test.

If Forest can't/won't/whatever, check with Evangel and MSU. Both have Master's programs in Psychology.

Public schools only give giftedness screenings, not true IQ tests, and even that isn't required and/or funded in all states. http://www.davidsongifted.org/db/StatePolicy.aspx The actual IQ tests vary by age and have to be given by a psychologist. Sometimes you can go through a university grad student to get them done cheaper, but usually they'll start in the $700 range by a licensed psychologist who is familiar with testing children specifically for giftedness.

We'll be going to the Gifted Development Center in Denver in January. There's only one person in the Austin area qualified to do what we need, but he's limited in the tests he'll administer. He can't work around ceilings or diagnose hidden learning disabilities, and besides that, his specialty is ADHD, not giftedness. The second-most qualified person in the Austin area trained at GDC and recommended we go there, because she's also not qualified to do all the testing we need.

Public school psychologists do give actual IQ tests in La. Not the specialized tests 2littleboys is talking about, but just a regular WISC or WAIS.
