What kinds of games do you and your children play in the car while on a long road trip. I needs lots of ideas, it's a 13 hr drive!
I had a portable dvd player and gave the girls headphones to watch movies... then we would try to find plates that were not from the state we are driving in... another one, is finding words that begin with the abc in order.... check this link out http://www.airlinecreditcards.com/t...to-keep-your-kids-entertained-on-a-road-trip/
Well, there's the old favorite of seeing how many license plates you can identify from how many different states. Mine used to play a game they made up themselves, "rich man" which amounts to "bragging" that one "owns" everything they can see out their side window -- "Oh, I own a farm! Look at all those cows!" "That's nothin', I own aaaallllllll those houses!" and so on.... Not very mentally challenging, but they seemed to enjoy it. In the dark, however, we would have to rely on memory games where you have to remember everything that's been said already have passed some time away ... "I'm going to Australia (for example, or any other place), and I'm taking my abacus (or whatever starts with the same letter that the place starts with)." "I'm going to Australia and I'm taking my abacus and my anteater." And each person in turn has to name everything that's already been said before adding a new one at the end. Or a variation is to name things that start with successive letters of the alphabet, so that if the first says an a word, the next has to say a b word, then a c word, etc. If you miss one in the sequence, hesitate "too long", or get something out of sequence, you're "out". Then there's States and Cities, where you have to name a state or a city that begins with the last letter of whatever got named just before, without naming something already named. Game ender? Appamatox.
One person starts a story - I was traveling in my car and all of a sudden... -then the next person picks up and continues with the story - A great big anteater was blocking the road, as we tried to get around him, he...- then the next person continues. We also play a game where we describe a person's job - ie - nurse, this person works around a lot of people, continue to describe the person until someone guesses what the job is. We also do Bible characters or people we know. Just a few we play.
We don't do a lot of games but we do a lot of books on tape! We all love them and the mile just role on by! I have younger kids and the books really help them from getting ansty- and we've done multiple day drives!
We do a lot of road trips, jsut came back from a 20 hr drive...My kids are little, so books on tape are a big fave and they love coloring books, activity books, that sort of thing. I bought some bags that go over the back of the front seat, and it opens up like kind of a tray, so they keep their stuff in there, and bring along little toys and such. Also, we get them little flashlights so they can read and play too, once it gets dark. They also enjoy I spy, and those kinds of games... Good luck, and drive safely!
