I do love the old stuff. I love that my kids can watch good clean shows, but I think there are not enough of the newer things to go complete streaming.

On another note... we stream through our wii. It has gotten to the point that we can't watch more than 2-3 minutes of a show without a 5 min. "retrieving". It's hard to watch anything anymore. We have the latest wii updates and wi-fi. Googling leads me to belieive it's a pretty common problem. This makes me want to get rid of it more than the price increase.

My hubby is irate over this! LOL :) he wishes we could drop the whole thing! Oh well. We're dropping back to streaming only. Partly because we rarely watch the 1 dVD that comes and we end up having the same DVD in the house all month. He figures if we really want to see a first run DVD, we'll rent it from the Redbox or Blockbuster Express machines at the grocery store; watch it on demand on our TV from cable; or watch it through Apple TV. I constantly get Blockbuster Exp and Redbox coupons in email, and the stores are right up the road - so it's not too inconvenient.

Still annoyed that they're doing this.

There are SO many educational programs through netflix, did you know they have the Teaching Company videos? You can get them through the DVD program.. also Standard Deviants. Then on streaming is all the Beakman's World and Sid the Science Kid and Cyberchase.

I really feel for $20 a month it's worth it for me to keep both the streaming and the 2 out at a time, we use it sooooo much for school and also the kids watch stuff on the streaming all the time (esp Thomas for the little boys! and I'm watching Desperate Housewives from the beginning since I didn't start watching it until like last year.. they also have Rosanne which we all enjoy) plus all the movies we watch between the DVDs and streaming for pure entertainment (Diary of a Whimpy Kid 2 should be here today ;) ).

I guess it goes with what is important for your family, for us we are big on the TV.

I also have the wii "retrieving" problem. I always just thought my internet was messed up. Until the other day it streamed through my laptop perfectly with not one "retrieving" problem.

I am going to do just the streaming and cut off the dvd. Since it is $17.98 for one dvd w/ bluray and streaming, nope not worth it to me. Also since I have had the same dvd at my house for about a month now still have not watched it. I guess it is time to send it back and drop the dvd plan.

Can I ask what the hype is with Netflix? We have never had it, and just don't get why it's so high in demand. We watch what we want through either cable (ondemand) or plenty of free stuff on the internet. So, I am genuinely interested in why people choose to sign up. Please tell me...is there something I am really missing out on?

We don't have cable, so we use Netflix as our main form of TV watching.

Just ran across this site, it tells you what is expiring soon on Netflix streaming and what is coming soon. This is great , just added a few movies to my queue.

    Jennie:

I like that I can watch as many movies/tv shows as I want on either my computer, DSiXL, or Playstation 3 anytime for one low fee plus DVD's mailed to me. I get DVD's every other day ( Netflix wharehouse is 3 miles from my house) so I don't have to leave my house and I don't have to pay a on demand price ( some are 99 cents some are $3.99 each).
I love Netflix because they have a ton of movies, TV shows and fitness streaming available.
With the price increase we decided to go streaming only and Redbox for new releases. I have rarely paid for redbox rentals so it is cheaper for me to do streaming (at $7.99 a month) and Redbox ( with codes I can get 6-10 discounted or free movies a month).

If we ever got rid of our cable, I can see how this would be useful for us. As far as movies though, we only rent about 1 movie a month so paying for Netflix for movies would actually be costing us more.

Crystal, thanks for that link!! Awesome!!

Jennie, I'm with Crystal.. I love that the variety of movies I can watch at any given moment reaches far and wide. We watch at least one thing a day on the instant. On Demand is very limited in what you can order, and many things aren't available to watch online (we watch soooo many PBS and Nat. Geo. doccumenteries that unless you are watching them illeagally are not online). Also, for the price of 2 or 3 on demands I can get the Netflix streaming. I can watch it anywhere in the world that I can take my laptop or even my Wii as long as I have an internet connection, which also means I can watch it anywhere in my home.

As far as the Disk, they are here super fast, if I mail today I will have my next disk by Saturday. There are SO many educational programs, and my kids love them. Recently we went through some of the Rock n Learn videos.

We usually use redbox for new release type movies..because we have so much of a line up through netflix that is educational.

For us, we chalk it up in our homeschooling budget, the family entertainment is just icing on the cake.

We use this along with Sky Angel instead of Cable TV.. It "was" cheaper. I'm disappointed that the price is going up so much. We're contemplating doing away with it now.

IMHO - I think it is funny that cable raises it prices on a regular basis, and people accept it as part of life, but nexflix being upfront and warning people freaks them out! We pay the $19.99 package each month and cancelled our CABLE because I would rather pay $20/month than $65/month for tv we rarely watch anyway!

The cost of business is going up everywhere, and while people might not like it, they do have the option NOT to have the service. It's not like anyone is FORCING you to have it - it's not like car insurance or something!

Also, Netflix was awesome in how honest they were about it all - they notified customers 2 months in advance and everything - who does that in this world anymore? Most companies jack up their prices, and you are stuck paying for it until you figure it out and cancel it!

We cancelled our cable a year ago and have not missed it - I would miss netflix, and since it is still considerably cheaper than cable, we are sticking with it. Companies have to make money to stay in business, and it ticks me off that people shame companies for that.

    *getting off soapbox now! :)

We dont have cable, so we use Netflix for almost all our entertainment. Yeah, they raised the prices, but like someone said, the movie companies and postal service prices are also going up.
Still, I think 60% increase is a bit much, there is definitely greed involved.
