Since you ladies were my salvation for ideas for our medieval birthday party, I thought I'd throw out my current challenge: an Ancient Egyptian birthday party. And... GO!
Well what first comes to mind is when I was in PS there was a travelling school Egyptian theme presentation. Part of that was they had made a tomb of cardboard and decorated inside the tomb with heiroglyphics and so on. It was dark in the box tomb and we had to enter as archeologists with flashlights. Also you could make pyramid shape treat boxes out of bristol board or cardstock. Sounds like you have some awesome parties wish we could come!
I never did anything on my birthday, so I feel inclined to make sure my kiddos have at least one day a year that is 100% about them! Oh, and feel free to come on down. I've got a spare room you can crash in. lol. :wink:
BTW, the tomb idea sounds fantastic. We get huge cup boxes at work, so big sheets of cardboard are easy to come by.
You could have something where the kids copy or paint some hieroglyphics. You could create some Senet boards and have the kids play that. You could have them make mummies. When we did Egypt a couple of years ago I got a book out of the library that had some reciepes and we did an Egyptian feast, honey cake went over well.
Mummy races! Buy lots of cheap toilet paper, and they can take turns wrapping each other and then trying to hop to a finish line.
Maybe an archeological dig? Fill a small pool with sand and little treasures? Not sure what that would cost though.
Crayola model magic comes in a terra cotta color. Our local michael's store hosted crafts from around the world this summer and one was Egypt. They used the model magic to write their names in heiroglyphics. (that spelling is so wrong!) They also make mummy pins out of clothes pins, tissue paper, and goggle eyes. It was really fun!
Good idea! I'm also thinking you could turn over the dirt in a spot in your yard and 'square it out' like the archeologists do, with sticks and twine, bury some fun stuff for the kids to 'dig up', throw a few fake bugs in there. Each kid gets a square to dig in and a little bucket (like for the beach w/shovel). Make sure all the squares have the same number of toys buried so nobody gets upset!!
