I know there are dozens out there, but I'm looking for a good unit study on the Civil War for my 2nd and 4th graders. What have you used that worked vs. didn't work?

I'm suddenly insecure about my boys' lack of Civil War knowledge. Our Scout pack (which is mostly homeschoolers) had a "lecture" today on the role of the Cherokee in the Civil War. The wonderful man who presented asked a lot of questions as he went to judge the boys' knowledge level before proceeding. My boys knew zero. Which I wouldn't care about, but even the younger siblings knew at least a little. Living in an area so steeped in Civil War history, I figure I'd better catch them up a bit. lol.

Have you checked out Homeschool in the Woods Time Traveler cd on the Civil War yet? I used their one New World Explorers last year and it was great. Lots of information and lots of fun activities.

I have never heard of the series. I'll look into it for sure.

I did find a Unit Study on CurrClick that goes with the MTH #21 book. My boys love Magic Tree House and the study was on sale for $.75. I think I can waste a few quarters if it's not good. lol. I found some copywork pages for $.60 too that I'm going to get. But I'd like something tried-and-true, iykwim.

I just looked at the site and.. wow! That's some pretty cool stuff!!! I may have to wait a bit to drop the $30, but I think it might be well worth it.

Amy and her family really go all out in making these. They just finished making a WWII one ( I think it is WWII might be WWI though). I just love them.

I don't have a unit study, but if you go to my web site, I have a good number of books listed. Several of them would be good for you; Phillip was third grade when we did the Civil War.
