I've been looking at the elementary science books from Apologia. And I'm wondering for those of you who whose them, do you go in order or do you mix the books together? I think we'd start with Zoology but I think months and month of birds might drive me crazy. Does anyone mix lessons from the 3 books or would that not work? Do they need to be taught in order?

    Thanks!

I do a book per semester, and I think the flying one was my fave of the 3 zoologies. It's not really months and months of birds. It starts out with classification in general, talks about types of birds, how birds fly, insects, bats (my son's fave), and flying dinos. Really, only about half the book is birds. It moves quickly.

You can mix lessons if you want, but I wouldn't and haven't.

we are using Flying Ctreatures this year too. I am going to mix in some Curiosity Files from The Old Schoolhouse just to add a little something different here and there.

We used Zoology 1 last year and we loved it. It's not just all birds, but all kinds of different flying things. We're doing Zoology 2 this year and I don't have any worries about getting bored.

All right great! So are most of you doing 1 book per semester (more or less)?

I'm trying to stretch ours for the entire year, hence adding in the curiosity files. It's mainly a budget issue right now as we are paying hospital bills:(

We do one book per year. Science is my son's favorite subject and I don't want to rush through it. Also, we only formally do science twice a week. I thought about doing one book a semester, but I think that's too much.
