I think I need to vent a little here.

We had bidding yesterday for our local school bus run. I drive for our public school. Because of budget cuts I went from 5 hours a day to 2. Plus, that means I am going to loose medical benefits.

REALLY! What are these people thinking there aren't less kids going to school. My bus last year was packed! No room at all. Let me just say 3 kids do not fit to a seat. I am so mad.....

There is always a plus side to things and I keep reminding myself of that. At least I will be home in the morning for homeschooling my kids which is wonderful!

But, I am so nervous about this money thing. It's hard when your pay is cut to less than half. It seems we keep getting slammed from every angle financially and I am so sick and tired of it!

    Thanks for letting me vent!

Oh dear. Hopefully with the beginning of school they will realize they need more bus drivers and call you back.

Sounds like our busing system. LOL Two children only fit per seat. HOWEVER! They manage to squeeze three to a seat. They also changed the hours that all the schools operate. Basically, they were able to let go of many drivers and keep some who run around like chickens with out heads in order to make all the runs in a timely fashion. Sadly, many schools are broke and have no choice. This is why a lot of districts are now charging parents if the students are going to ride the bus. The money is no longer coming from the state. It has to come from somewhere.

...and I am sorry that your hours were cut. With this economy, almost everybody I know has suffered a loss of job or cut backs. It stinks.

sorry this happening to your family budget hopefully the cuts want last long

I just have say that I rode a bus in rural area during the 70s' and 80's we were so packed, that the elementary kids would sit in the laps of the high school kids. I wish I was kidding. I had to sit in a couple of high schoolers laps from 4th grade through 6th grade. It was a innocent time and I didn't think anything of it but I look back on it now and just "cringe"

The boys always treated me like a little sister and I was never uncomfortable but seriously in todays world would you want your daughter in the same situation.

I think a lot of schools are going to revert back to the all grade buses to cut budgets. I know most schools now have bus system for each level of education unlike when I was a child and they bused 1st - 12th

It is just completely mind boggling to me. Thank you Lord my kids aren't riding those buses and are home.

I know in our district they restructured the late buses so now there will be less routes. Also the high school late bus will be combined with the private/parochial school afternoon bus so you will now have elementary kids with the high schoolers. I really would not want my elementary kids on the same bus with high school kids plus it will now make the trip home even longer for those poor kids.

now that I have had time for everything to settle in, I am okay with this. I know God is trying to teach me to slow down, so maybe he is helping me along. When I look at it from a homeschool perspective what a awesome day. I can be here when my kids get up instead of coming home at 9 or 9:30 and finding them watching tv... HATE THAT! I told them we would start our day by getting up at 7am and start schooling at 8am. Then ready for this one I don't have to be at work until 2:20. I use to school until it was time to leave at 1 and I was shoving food into my mouth on my way to work. Then if I forgot a drink. urgh.... So, even though I will loose money and my insurance, we will have my husbands, I must say his stinks, our co-pay are $45 so when the kids get sick by the time everything is said and done it cost us usually $300. yuck... but we have insurance so that is what I am going with. Thanks again guys.....

I love that you are looking at the good side of your situation and not just the loss of money. Enjoy your extra time with your kiddos.

Our school busses still are all age. We live in a very rural area and you would not be able to make more than one trip. I can understand separating in the bigger cities where their are more kids. I didn't even know they separated the kids until a few years ago. I am glad you are looking at the positive side. Maybe this will be a great start to a wonderful school year.
