My older two can form the cursive letters but they hate to write in it and they can't read it. I'm wondering how important it is to insist they use it. I guess they don't even teach it anymore in ps.
Blizzard, thanks for this links! I'm going to print them up and implement a lot of those ideas. I've been searching all night online for something like that. I think DS would like to take small breaks from school and do a few exercises between classes.
Teachermom Your son sounds A LOT like my oldest. I don't have any suggestions for cursive writing because both of my boys taught themselves cursive. I can tell you the oldest has better cursive writing than the print so maybe it will help your ds once he learns. Just really wanted to let you know since our ds sound so much alike, YOU ARE NOT A HORRIBLE MOM. At 30 I think I was pretty mature when I had 1st ds. I did what "they"(the five thousand books) said you should do for your child. If it said for every time you have to correct your child, you should praise 10 times. I counted to make sure I did that. Guess what, I STILL made mistakes. I think our children are a combination of what we do right, what we do wrong, their enviroment and the fact that they are little people with their own strengths and weaknesses. So don't feel bad, just do like I do when I make mistakes, promise yourself starting now you'll do your best. Debbie
I just bought the Pentime 3rd grade. It was $10 with shipping, so if we don't like it, it's not a huge loss. I also bought a bunch of stuff to do those OT exercises that Blizzard posted, as well as some beads and embroidery floss to make beaded bracelets and friendship bracelets. DS isn't thrilled about making 'jewelry' because he thinks it's 'girly', so I told him they're called 'Bro-celets'. Lol! I told him he doesn't have much of a choice, and that he will end up liking it once he gives it a try. Thanks everyone!
