My dd13 is a competitive swimmer. She's suffered from some shoulder discomfort for most of last school year. We've seen a sports doctor routinely and been in physical therapy for almost an entire year. As far as the doctor can tell, there is no injury, just tendonitis in the rotator cuff from overuse. Her therapist sees no reason WHY she still hurts (not unbearable pan, just discomfort).

She just took a mandatory two week break to hopefully be pain free. Although she says it's better, she did say the pain is not gone. She has a check up on Sept 2. If she is not pain-free, the doc is going to order an MRI and possibly put her on an extended rest period. This would break her heart. The two week break was hard for her.

My dd struggles academically because of some learning disabilities, so I hate to see her have to give up something she loves and is good at. She has her heart set on making the all-star swim team, but that will be out if she is put on rest.

Will you please pray for healing?

DD came home from PT with her shoulder muscles taped in place. She said nothing seemed different, so she wasn't sure why they decided to go this route. Praying that it helps!

PRAYING! I have a competitive gymnast and am well acquainted with overuse injuries!!! :) My daughter nearly dislocated her shoulder her first meet of the year last year and was out for two weeks straight....darn near broke her heart!

Praying for your daughter not only to heal, but spend this time reaffirming her worth in Christ.

    :)

Thanks, Krista. She said today that she's just ready to know what the doctor is going to say. Everyone seems baffled that she is still very strong, despite there being pain. A friend who is a coach (not hers) said that dd does not swim like she is in pain. She looks good. She LOVES PT... not for herself, but because she loves to watch the kids who are there for OT. One of them tells the therapist that my dd is his favorite person there. That's NOT a reason to keep going though. :)

My daughter faces the same...she is very good at covering that she is in pain. The Severs & Chondramalacia cause her to wear a knee brace and heel cups but she will not wear them at all when she competes!!! She's afraid of pity points! LOL :)

When do you go to the doctors again? How has she felt lately?

I recently injured my rotator cuff and my doctor said it could take 3-6 months to heal. I have also read on the internet varying accounts of degrees of pain and such. My pain is only present when I move my arm in certain directions and so a good deal of time I have no pain. Then when it does hurt it is not severe, just annoying some.

    I will pray for her.

Check up today went well and no MRI scheduled. The doctor says she seems stronger and these types of things take a long time to heal. He also said that she may have discomfort in her shoulder periodically just because of the nature of the sport. He stressed the importance of her at-home therapy and wants to see her again in two weeks. So far so good!
