Welcome! Both of my SILs are certified teachers (who are now SAHMs) and one brother has his doctorate in education (administration) and is a special ed director. They are all very much pro-education in whatever form works for your child and family. I'm hoping you find that to be true for you family as well. Of course, I have a couple teachers in the fam who are as anti-homeschooling as can be, but they are used to it now, I think. ;)

Anyway, just wanted to encourage you to post any specific questions you may have in the Homeschooling section so you can get a lot more responses. It will also help you to search for older posts about things you might want to learn about. There are a ton of posts about what people used for early learning. :)

Welcome! The Spot is where to be! My grandma taught ps 1st grade for over 40 years and was hesitant about our homeschooling at first, until I told her that the ps wouldn't let my advanced son take out any books from the library except the 1st grade level books. She was livid! And on-board with our homeschooling ever since. ;)

I'm sure we can help with any questions you might have! Can't wait to get to know you!

Welcome! First and foremost, these are your children and it is up to you and your husband what type of education they will receive. You really do have to grow a thick skin and do what you believe is best and yes that is easier said than done. I also suggest some specific questions to receive the most appropriate answers. I started out by finding out the mandatory reporting age for my state. Next I read everything I could get my hands on about homeschooling. Start asking around to find out who homeschools in your area so you can talk to moms who have been there done that. At your son's age I think it is fine to continue to work on the things he is interested in but I would not search out a fancy boxed curriculum. Let him lead you in his learning. Find a good public library if you haven't already and check out a variety of good children's books and lots of books about his special interest like construction trucks, dinosaurs, whatever it may be. My son even liked some of the more advanced books on tape at his age and you can always read some chapter books to him as well. I hope that helps a little.

    Hello, New Homeschooling Parents :)

    MrsMcCullen07 and Michealleo,

I taught in public schools, and now teach kids who can't read well online. So I'm experienced!

I predict that you are going to love the thrill of watching your child (or children) learn, grow, improve and explore.

I wish schools could be more like homeschooling! I always did.

Ask me any questions you may have about teaching your kids to read. It's my favorite subject. :)
