    Good morning,

I am sort of new to homeschooling I was home schooled my self way beack when when our parents actually had to go to court to get permission, then i home schooled my middle son for two yrs while he was fighting some mental illnesses, Now. iunfortunitly he is in 11th grade and has been diagnosed with Crohns Disease, so he is being tutored through the school but we are in and out of the childrens hospital here, so he would like to finish off High school with home schooling. what my questions is?? since i have had to resign from my federal job to care fro him so now money is tight. Does any one know where i can find the SOS 11th pac for really cheap and if i bought the early version, let s say Not 2011 will the schools accept this cirriculm?

thank you all for your help.

    -T-

What state are you in? All states have different requirements.

I'm not at all familiar with reporting to the school, but each new "version" of SOS is mainly changes in the technology, not the content. I'd assume they still align with certain standards.

Great , thats what I was thinking, and Yes here in Mass if you want to home school your child you need to send the outlined school year and testing options in order for you to be able to do this, not that this would even be an issue since my son is actually able to drop out of school at this point but he is excitied about finishing so he is actually helping pay for the School stuff.

Does your local school then give him credit and a diploma? If he is not even of compulsory age, you might be able to just skip the reporting all together and issue your own diploma for him. Just a thought.

He is 17, so we can probably skip the reporting, and no they wont issue him a diploma, will he have to get a GED or will he actually earn a HS diploma though the program?

You can issue him a diploma and create transcripts for him. Alpha Omega might have a correspondence or online school where he could earn a diploma through them, but it is not necessary. Most of us here at the Spot who are homeschooling our high schoolers plan to issue them a diploma from our own home school. You can order them online through places like HSLDA and many, many others. HSLDA also has transcript templates you can download free and insert your ds's information.

If he has earned enough credits for a diploma by your standards, then I would give him one. I'd hate to see anyone put in all that effort to then get a GED. The GED is great for some people, but unfortunately it does carry with it an inferior reputation than that of a high school diploma.
