Is anyone doing any fun crafts for the first day of Fall? I remember doing something with leaves and wax paper in school, but I do not remember exactly how it worked.
There's no such thing as Fall where I live lol, but if I were going to do something, I might make crayon rubbings of leaves onto brown paper. (Come to think of it... there aren't many leaves here, either!)
With the waxed paper you just collect the leaves, put them between two sheets of waxed paper and then iron them together. Make sure you put a tea towel on top of the paper though before ironing. You can do this with crayon shavings as well for some beautiful and trippy stained glass-like art. We'll be taking a nature walk and colleting fall things like leaves, seed pods and rose hips. We'll cut the middle out of a paper plate and then hto glue it all the the plate to make a fall wreath.
Last year we got a book at the library called "Leaf Man" or something like that. It was very cool. All the art was stuff made of out leaves. Then we took a walk collected a bunch of different leaves and made our own leaf man with the wax paper trick. He's still hanging in the kitchen window
We are going for a nature walk to collect items that remind us of fall. Then make wall hangings out of them.
we will be cleaning up the backyard which is full of leaves after our homeschooling book club. I have decided instead of borrowing a rake from housing I am just gonna go and buy two of them and let two of my kids rake while the other one n I bag 'em. We don't get too much of a season change in this part of the country. There are some changes but think FL winter and that is what we have over here.
You can also break bits of crayons and put them on the leaves between the wax paper and then iron them
We are baking cupcakes and decorating them in fall colors. The boys will be decorating a couple of small pumpkins. We will hang our fall wreath. We will begin our thankful tree in the next few weeks. I'm still looking for a few more ideas. They love crafty things.
Instead of breaking crayons, it works better if you use a grater or sharp knife to shave thinner slivers. They melt better than chunks.
