after a month of MFW's Creation to Greeks we are not liking it as much as I thought we would. I like the scheduling layout but am all over the place. Ahead in science but behind in history. We have added extra words a week from English from the Roots Up. I was gonna skip it but decided to stick with order after finishing Countries and Cultures. The stuff we are doing is again easy for my DD11. Last year was easy for her too. It's a little above my DS7 and DD6. While I do have MFW 1 for DD6 she still tags along with the oldest. Ya think I'd figured that out since last year MFW K didn't work for us and now I am torturing myself with MFW 1. I honestly dislike the layout of the Teacher's manual. Back to DD11/DS7 work there is just some that my husband doesn't agree with and prefers that we don't use the curriculum. After looking attheir catalog he don't prefer them.:?
I am thinking I should have gone with Songlight but the cost for their science and history for two different levels was more expensive. Sighing here. what is done is done. I do have the Story of the World books. DD11 read volume 1. Could breeze thru it until Dec and start volume 2in January. that way there is some order.

as least I like what I use for math and langauge arts.

I feel the same way every year. We start out strong in the beginning loving our choices. Then after the third week or so we don't enjoy it anymore. Then we have to realize it is work and then we get to the point where we just do it and it doesn't seems as exhausting. I know its probably not what you wanted to hear but good luck.

Well, all I can say is you're making me glad I left MFW after doing ECC and moved onto something else to teach Creation to Greeks! LOL :)

    Sorry...I know that doesn't help!

:( About hubby not agreeing with the company. We're using some of the similar resources but not all of them as a companion to what we're using. If you like Story of the World, then go with that for now. A little history is better than no history.

Maybe take a good look of the resources you HAVE and see if you can rework some of it to work for you so you don't have to go from scratch.

Also, you can make things harder for DD11 by making her write a report or create a project or something - something she works on independently and turns in at the end of the unit. My oldest found MFW ECC fairly easy last year as well (I mean, an 11 year old coloring pages???) BUT, she did like the World Geography book because it made her think. And even though she wasn't in the 7th & 8th grade, I added those activities to her schedule to challenge her more. I also downloaded the Geo Scribe from the folks at History Scribe and she had to do the country reports for each country. And some of the longer continental units, she would have to pick another country in that continent we weren't studying and do the country report on it.

Anyway, are their ways you could add the 7th & 8th Grade stuff to your DD11 to make it more challenging? (if you're already doing that, sorry).

    :)

lol...i would say we are really enjoying the WTM at the moment, but we have only introduced it last week, judging by the thread, we will begin to be discouraged in about two more weeks! lol I love the story of the world so far, and following the schedule they have laid out, the focus on reading etc. mine are only 7 and 5 though.

    good luck!

    :)
