Just when I thought the worst was over, they are splitting the DVD and Streaming into two different websites (independent of each other). So if I want to watch a specific movie, I'll have to search the streaming site and, if it's not there, switch websites and search the DVD sites. The ques will no longer be combined, either. That means no more glancing down the line to see which movies have been added to streaming. I'd like to know what these people are on and if it's available legally. http://blog.netflix.com/2011/09/explanation-and-some-reflections.html
I think they may have really screwed themselves... although, truth be told, as long as the prices don't go up again soon I will stay with them. It's still worth a little extra hassle to me.
i am still planning to stick with them. i cannot have streaming and the turn around is very slow but it's better than nothing over here. The libraries on base are mostly VHS which my player has bit the dust and now the store sells mostly Blue Ray sound systems. appearently they think everyone wants to go digital, but i won't get into that arguement now. Unless the schools allow me to use what videos they have, if anything good, I will continue to use Netflix or whatever it's called now.
I found out last night that the original DVD-by-mail service, Blockbuster, was recently bought by Dish Network and poised to grow exponentially next month! They have streaming (and they're picking up the STARZ contract that Netflix dropped!!!), DVD by mail, with Blu Ray and Games at no extra charge. They are rapidly expanding their streaming selection and working on game console apps for XBox and Wii (right now the apps are for devices and computers). They'd basically provide everything that Netflix USED to. Plus the added bonus of streaming rentals; if there is a movie you want to watch that they haven't been able to get the film company to contract on unlimited streaming, they'll rent it to you on streaming. Yes, it's an extra charge, but it's way better than waiting for the DVD if time matters (I'm thinking about HSing here). Smart move! So I'll be switching to them once some of the changes take place.
I'll be watching, too! The only reason I still have Netflix (streaming only) is because there is no other option for us. I checked into the Walmart streaming, but we use our Wii for streaming. You can't use a Wii for VUDU, and we don't have a Playstation 3 or blu-ray.
I also just found out that Starz provided 8% of Netflix's streaming library! Yikes. I hope those were some tough negotiations or it's another sign of how devalued Netflix customers are. The only reason we keep it is because we track hours, to be honest. When I need to pad our hours a bit, I can pick some documentaries on what we're working on (like those times I think it's going to take the boys a whole day to make a lapbook on Japan... that they finish in 45 minutes!). So I feel your pain, sixcloar. I really hope Blockbuster snatches this opportunity. It's the perfect timing for them to say, "hey, disgruntled Netflix users! Guess what we got?!"
I will be interested to see what Blockbuster has to offer as well. I dropped the DVD option when Netflix changed the pricing. We just were not good about returning movies (that and ds will watch movies over and over, so some times he would keep a movie for a whole month before I would realize it and make him get another) and when we actually saw a movie we wanted, we wanted it that night so we would just pop by the Redbox up the road. Ds still watches a ton on streaming (I don't think he has switched to the satellite in 2 weeks, he has watched all Netflix), so I kept that option.
Ugh, and lately when I access streaming movies, the audio is really bad. It ranges from volumn problems to film does not match the audio (it's "off"), to not playing any audio at all. What's up with that? I know its not me because I've read on member reviews that those particular movies have issues. Yeah, really...what are they trying to do, lose more customers? Maybe they're hoping for a buyout??
see I don't know what we will do, my mom got me the nextflix for my birthday gift. I don't even think she realizes they raised rates or that they are having this stuff going on. .......... we are frustrated with it all anyway.
From what I understand the Blockbuster deal is for Dish Network subscribers only : http://www.dishnetwork.com/blockbustermoviepass/ Also I understand that the company , Netflix, wants to focus on DVD and games ( yes they are adding games) and streaming as different companies is their way of trying to make each better, they went about it the wrong way but I understand. I also am not mad about Starz leaving, its Starz that wants more money (a billion dollars instead of hundreds of millions) and movie channel/companies often bully their way to more money ( happens to Dish and Cox users all the time). I still think that the streaming is worth the money and I supplement DVD's w/ free or reduce rate rentals from Redbox and the library.
Nope. This is the same Blockbuster-by-mail that started nearly a decade ago. They are adding more streaming and games every day. The streaming is in the early stages, so there are only a few devices that can receive it. But they are ramping up to catch the disgruntled Netflix users. http://www.blockbuster.com/
Total Access is DVD only ( what you linked me to), Blockbuster On Demand ( is pay -per-view streaming not part of Blockbuster's Total Access), DishNetwork/ Blockbuster's program is called Movie Pass ( available Oct 1st, my link) and includes, games, streaming and DVD's in-store mail. So 2 totally different programs we are talking about but both are through Blockbuster. http://insidemovies.ew.com/2011/09/23/netflix-blockbuster-dish-network/
Blockbuster on demand is also on that page. That's what I'm talking about. Yes, it is pay-per-view streaming NOW. But, if you reread what I posted originally, it is on track (according to Blockbuster) to be just like Netflix's old streaming plans. I thought I was clear in my original post about it that these changes are coming... in the future... not currently here. Which is why we were discussing the idea of "I guess we'll see." Sorry I wasn't clear about that.
Totally understand your orginal post ( and the few after) I was just saying that the Total Access does not include streaming therefore its not like Netflix...on the other hand Movie Pass is just like the old NetFlix and will be available soon. We are talking about the same thing but 2 different services under the same company ( like NetFlix and Qwister are now).
I have already changed my Netflix account to just the streaming, but when BlockBuster gets their new site ready, we will be switching completely!
