I found ours from our state's yahoo group. It was a drive to see her, but worth it- she was wonderful.

Do you have friends that homeschool close to you? If so, ask them. Seeing as you just moved, however, you've probably not met many people yet, so that might not work. But I bet you will! You've got a way to go before you'll need an evaluator, so don't be in too big a hurry.

According to my state laws, mine had to be turned in by September 1st, so I had my review done in August. I wish I had done it in June, after the year wrapped up, but I was nervous

I didn't start looking for mine until July. I'd say you probably have awhile yet unless your state law says differently :D

Thanks meghan for your quick response. I will check again but I do believe in florida, the day will be a year from the day we started our homeschool. Since I'm not sure, I will check again. Do hope some seasoned homeschoolers will post here to help us out.

    Again, appreciated your detail info.

    Good health and happiness.

I think you should check your state laws again. I just glanced at them and I do not think you need an evaluator in FL.

I homeschool in Florida. Where are you located, more or less? I'm in Broward county. Look at the FPEA's website, and find your district. Call or email your districts leader and they can send you in the right direction.

I asked homeschooling friends for good evaluators. If you're new to the area but going to be in a co-op or a group, you can ask people for suggestions.

You should look for an evaluator who is used to evaluating homeschoolers.
Your evaluator should not put a grade level or any test scores on the paper they give you to turn into the school board.

The paper should state [Child's Name] has been progressing at their individual ability, or something similar.

My evaluator took a quick peek at our portfolio, asked DS a few questions, and administered a Peabody Achievement Test. It places the child to see what grade level they are at in different subjects. The scores were for me, but the evaluator had a pre printed form for me to send to the school board.
I hope that helps. Try to find a local support group, and get as involved as you can. my local group is amazing, and I wouldn't be as successful at homeschooling without them.
