It isn't actually a tracking service, only delivery confirmation. Technically each package only needs to be scanned and put into the system twice, once when it's accepted at the PO and once when it's delivered to it's destination. Any other scan is just a bonus.
I understand! I do it too, I'm always checking to see if there are any updates, and sometimes there are but most of the time I don't get much. Now if it's UPS, or FedEx that's another matter entirely, they do in fact track that package along every.single.stop.
It's kind of like "a watched pot never boils". The more you check it, the slower it is. They give you those tracking numbers to make you feel like you have some kind of control. Never a good idea for control freaks!! I agree with Birbitt, if I have a choice I go with UPS. I can stalk that sucker till it hits my front porch!
I PAID EXTRA for e-mail confirmation concerning my notification forms being delivered to the school district. I was told it would take x-number of days. The time passed, and I didn't receive my notification. When I got on-line, all it could tell me was that it left the post office. They had NO IDEA what had become of it! So I went and talked with the guy at the PO. He was very nice. They were "pretty sure" it had been delivered, but no one collected the signature. I explained to him that I HAD TO KNOW that it had been received. WHY DO THEY ACCEPT PAYMENT FOR SPECIAL SERVICES IF THEY'RE NOT GOING TO FOLLOW THROUGH WIH THEM??? (I eventually found it HAD been received, because I got my paperwork back from teh district.)
Our local post office wont even scan it when you mail it. Guess that is too much work even though it is a service that you pay for. I know, very annoying.
Up here it's CANPAR (among others). Not sure what CANPAR stands for, Canada Parcels, maybe. Usually works okay, anyway.
