I am trying to decide which program to get for my children in 7th and 9th grade to learn Spanish 1, The Learnables or Rosetta Stone. The Learnables looks good because it also has a workbook and computer software. However, I am not sure. Anyone have any experience with these?

I'm using Rosetta stone, and I like it. I used Fluenz Spanish last year, and that's also a great program.

I speak Spanish though, so I can supplement as needed.

I am using rosetta stone right now too - for me! I feel like it would be hard for a kid that wasn't intuitively good at languages. It doesn't explain what the words actually mean, you have to infer. I already have a couple of verbs that I am unclear about, and I've only finished the first unit on the first level. For me, I'll push through, and hopefully it will become clear, but a teen may get frustrated, unless they genuinely love it. Also my BIL tried it and said that by L3 rosetta stone is getting into very difficult grammar, and he had to stop because of that.

I like the program, but I'm skeptical about how it would work for a homeschool setting.

My 10th grader is using Rosetta Stone Spanish 1 this year. My daughter's only complaint is that it doesn't explain what certain words actually mean and you have to guess. Other than that, she's doing fine and likes it. She's almost done with Unit 1.
