On the way home from a few errands (after a weekend of travel), Quin (7) was marveling at the idea of gas stations offering rest rooms for free. He decided that when he is older, he is going to find a long stretch of road and open a gas station with pay-to-use bathrooms. He said, "If people can't hold it any longer, they'll pay me to use my rest rooms." Yep... I'm going to retire on his dime.
They already do in alot of places. I can't remember where they are right now but we have came across them in our travels.

I was more amused at his budding entrepreneurial spirit. I have no doubt pay-to-use toilets are not a new idea, nor are they entirely practical depending on the situation, but he's already plotting ways to make money and has the basic gist right: find a need, charge to fill it.
Reminds me of my husband's (who happens to be Scottish so this is not a slur) favorite line "This place is emptier than a Scottish pay toilet". LOL
He sounds like a genius. Hopefully his mind will keep working on inventions and like you said - retire on his dime.
They have lots of pay toilets in Germany. It's easy to set up a coin slot on the stalls, but they couldn't enforce paying for the urinals very easily. My father once witnessed an interesting event in Germany at the train station. They used to offer free access to get in to the bathrooms, but then they installed a turnstyle type entry system that required a coin. He saw a rather drunk man attempt to get through the turnstyle to go in, but he didn't have the right change. In his protest he unzipped his pants and peed all over the turnstyle!!! LOL! The turnstyle was removed a few weeks later. Ewww! Edie
They have pay to use toilets all over Europe in the touristy areas. The trick is to catch the door of the stall once someone has left it before it closes.
