My youngest two and I just finished our 5th week of “school.” Things are going well. We have been doing Bible/Character Studies, ETC, Reading Made Easy, and FIAR. I was planning on adding McGuffy math 5 days a week and McGuffy Science 2 days a week. But things are going so well now and taking about the right amount of time each day, would I be crazy not to add the math and science in and just wait until until next school year? I should add that they get very little math and science, I’m not good at just adding it into everyday life. Do they really need it at this age, IYHO? TIA!

Are you talking about the 5 and 3 year olds?

If so, I don't think you need to add anything. Do the occasional number exercise (in game style) to make sure the 5yo has the basics like counting and identification, but beyond that, there's no need. IMHO, of course.

There is an awesome math book for preschoolers. I gave mine away to a friend, and wrote the title down and put it in a safe place, but of course whenever look for it, I can't find it :?. I'll look for it this afternoon.

You know my opinion!!!! You can add a little here and a little there in everyday life and not have to worry about making it anything formal.

Yes, I am talking about my 3 and 5 yo. That was my opinion also, but I was afraid I was just trying to be lazy by not wanting to add it.;)

Yes, I think you are fine. Just work on counting with your 5 yr old. You can also sing some skip counting songs if you like. My daughter could count by 5s and 10's in K just because of the song I sang with her older brother. :)

That would be great Jackie, thanks! If you don't find it, do you remember anything about it because if you do, someone on here might know what it is.

I remember it was green, lol! If nothing else, I can ask the person I gave it to.

I would add some math for the 5 year old unless you see he is doing well picking up math skills in his everyday life.

I agree with babydux. Just add a little here and there. At this age we are trying to get them to love learning.

You have my permission to not do math with the 5 and 3 year olds! Absolutely. If things are going great, good for you.
