I'm having an extremely hard time with my beliefs right now.. It's a tug-o-war right now within myself. I just had a discussion with someone last night about salvation. We disagree on the topic. I was raised Assembly of God. I now attend Baptist because that's what my husband is.. TOTAL different outlook on things. I don't exactly want to go into it all because I'm afraid of the debate it may cause. I'm just going to study scripture on the topic and pray for God to open my eyes to what is true.. Funny thing is that I've been really thinking about the topic and then this person came over to visit and brought it up. And actually brought up Assembly of God.. We discussed and I dropped it because I wanted to research more on the topic first. THEN my daughter comes in and her sunday school lesson was on the same topic. YIKES!! I had told my husband about the conversation with the other person and as soon as my daughter told us about her sunday school lesson he started laughing. I just sorta sat there in disbelief.. In my mind this topic is a BIGGIE.. It's a foundational thing and I don't agree with our current churches teachings.. I don't really know how to handle the situation other than to pray and study. I would appreciate your prayers on the matter too. Thanks

    Angela

I will be praying that the Lord would reveal the truth to you through His Word.

That is an excellent way to pray. But, having been raised in a Baptist church and having relatives in the AG church, I don't see the difference. My parents and my uncle (who is an AG pastor) believe pretty much the same thing as far as salvation goes. I'd be totally comfortable attending either church. Though I know there are so many DIFFERENT "brands" of Baptist, so maybe that's it.... Regardless, the way you worded your request is about as God-honoring as you can get, and one that He will honor.

I understand your dilemma and I have had to pray the same way. God is faithful! Just be prepared to believe His Word, despite what any man has ever taught you. Hugs and prayers going up for you to have understanding as it is your desire to please your Lord.

Do you not believe what your church teaches because it goes outside of the Word of God, or do you not believe what it teaches because it goes against what you were taught?
Examine what the Bible says and then compare it to what you believe. If you are seeking the truth, even if it goes against what you might have been taught, God will honor this if you are seeking his will.

I was going to say the same thing!

We are A/G and have friends Baptist, and they believe the same as we do on salvation...

I would say to pray, read and study...ask the LOrd to give you his understanding.

I was raised both AG and Baptist...so I think I know what you are talking about...and I will be praying for you..God will give you the answers you are looking for, just have faith.

And just so you know, my husband and I don't agree with one another on a lot of Biblical issues, so know you are NOT the only one :)

Angela, I would tend to say that God brings certain things to our minds when He wants to teach us something specific, and one way He does that is through our circumstances and situations that go along with that thought, like the questions that came up in your mind, and brought up again by a visitor, then again by your daughter's Sunday School class (which, if they use materials prepared by an organization instead of individual teachers making their own lessons, were planned and prepared - hopefully, inspired by the Spirit - months if not years ago)... so I'd say whatever it is He's ready for you to learn, He's definitely chosen the time for you to learn it! And I'd say you're going about it in just the right way, too, with prayer and prayerful research, and being open to however it is God wants to speak to you. Prayin' with ya!
