Our experience also, and although some of these people still wear their disapproval near the surface, at least we are no longer recipients of unsolicited opinions.

I don't know what everyone else has said, but all I could think of when I read what your wrote is this: Isn't it a little bit sad that kids see that establishment that they get crammed into for hours and hours a day to learn (and some don't even learn at all) the only thing that can be called "school"? It has become ingrained in some of us as adults (I dodn't even know it was legal to homeschool until a couple years ago) and our children that the public school system is the only form of education for them. I jsut think that it's unfortunate that public school is the only thing those kids know, and they have no sense of the freedom homeschooled kids have.

Yes, my own children would say 'what is real school like?' LOL My oldest is now in college and doing great. My youngest is 5 yrs. I have a range of grade levels. When I see my sister in laws struggling with their daughter having 'drama' at school and struggling with sex, drug etc. I know homeschool is the REAL school. Real raising to become a functioning adult.

I saw a homeschooling t-shirt that read "My school is so private you have to be born into it." I think it'd go well with what teachermom said

The neighbor boy asked my ds one time why he didn't go to school Apparently this little boy really wanted to ride the bus with my ds. Anyway, my ds looked at him and said (mind you he was about 6 at the time) "Why would I want to go to school with you? By the time the bus drops you off, I've been playing for HOURS!

The little boy went home and asked his mom if he could be home schooled too!

Oh yes! I've gotten this many times. My HS age kids have just started saying "lets trade places for a week" or something along those lines ;) gotta love teenagers! My younger kids get very confused by this, they don't understand why people say this so they just go with it! Its very frusturating. This is MY families choice and I don't like your judgement.

My son got the opposite reaction the other day at Tae Kwon Do. A new little boy was there and was asking the kids where they went to school. My son said "I'm homeschooled." The little boy said, "Homeschooled? So you don't have to go to school? No fair!" My son looked so proud. It was cute!
