I would like to find some appropriate educational programs for my kids. I have a vague idea of what I want to find on Netflix. I really can't figure out the keywords to use to get to what I want. Maybe you can give me some ideas. For my older two, I already know about Nova, IMAX and NatGeo but what else is interesting? We only had cable tv for a short time and so am unfamiliar with any shows they might have televised. I'm also looking for documentaries or educational shows for my 7 year old. We already know Liberty's Kids and Magic Schoolbus and other PBS shows. What else is there that would interest a 7 year old girl? Seems like when my older two were little, I'd find tons of stuff for them to watch at the library on VHS. Now, it seems to be very limited. Keywords or names of series' you like to use would be great. Thanks!
I don't know if this will help, but what I usually do is just search the documentary section in Netflix online and add anything interesting to my qeue. You can narrow it down by science, history, etc and then hopefully find something appropriate. It's a lot harder to find things on the PS3 itself. I also just type in whatever topic I want to find: egypt, bees, whatever. Sometimes I get lucky that way. My 7 year old likes Bill Nye and Beakman's World. I loved Schoolhouse Rock when I was a kid. The BBC website is full of games and mini-videos for all kinds of topics related to history and science. http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/forkids/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/scienceclips/index_flash.shtml
I was going to suggest Beakman's World as well. My ds (6) spent days watching episode after episode. He could not get enough of it.
It has been an ongoing beef of mine that Netflix will not use tagging as a way of finding content. It seems like it should be an easy change that would make life a lot easier. I wish they had a netflix for educators that was easier to navigate.
