We have to buy a new electric oven/stove. :( Due to our current financial situation, we have to buy the bottom of the line model. Can you tell me what brand/kind I should or should not buy? Thanks for any help you can give.

I'm not sure what your budget is, but we have had great success contacting stores and asking about scratch and dent models. They sometimes have repoed ones, too. You may be able to afford a bit better model that way, or still get a lower end one and save half of what you thought you'd be spending. Hope this helps.

Edited to say....this time of year, you can usually find 6 months same as cash deals, too. We have done that and then paid it off with tax returns.

Go to Rent-A-Center places ( Aaron's also) and ask about repo/returned items.
When we needed a new washer and dryer set and we paid $300 cash for it ! They still had the blue plastic sticky protector stuff on it too !

Also about 3 months ago , at Home Depot, I bought a new stove (gas, 5 burners), top of the line, stainless steel, it was a floor model , on clearance, we asked them to lower it more because they were having a sale:take an extra 20% off new appliances, and they did ! We paid $700 ( tax included), its regular price was $1300 !

I'm having someone come in today and service the Whirlpool we bought about six months ago . The top heating element in the oven isn't working. DH checked it with the voltage regulator. When you turn it on, the voltage is fine, but after a few seconds it clicks off and goes down to zero. The GOOD news is that it's still under warrantee!

Where ever you buy, ask if they have a scratch and dent special on any? Our stove is dented on the side but it has cabinets on each side so no one knows...except I just told y'all about it :D But you get a ridiculous discount because of it. (We got an $850 stove for under $400, brand spanking new, just has a dent in the side)

I think my stove is a Frigidaire, 3 years, no problems.

Did you try craig's list? Or even neighbors? We got our last washer and dryer from a friend.

When I go short of resources then I look for any of my friends selling the desired thing. Trust me it works, at least for me. My DD doesn’t like it though, but we make her understand our helpless situation. GL to you.

Don't buy a Frigidaire. We replaced all appliances in our house when we bought it 4 years ago. All three of them have had to be repaired-- the stove and fridge within the first year.

Just had a little comment to add:
We have a maytag electric glass cooktop, which is working fine so far. The only thng I wanted to say was, if you havent used one before, the glass cooktops can be a real pain to clean and keep scratch free, especially if u cook a lot of complicated meals. I cook mostly pakistani food (kinda the same as indian food), and its a nightmare cleaning it every night, since u have to be so darn careful not tp scratch the surface.

I really like my Maytag and LG appliances. I have had frigidaire in the past and I have had to replace them all within 5 years (except my washer and dryer...they are still going).
