Really...... My son who is eleven years old can go out and clean up the leaves every day or two without being asked. He says it easier to just keep up with it. Hey, I am not going to argue..... My daughter....... screaming...... Really, she is 10 years old and I told her that she could start vacuuming the house. Fair is fair, it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes when need be. I just went through to mop and she didn't vacuum any corner basically just skidded through the rooms quickly to say she was done. I had her do it again. Then she is complaining its taking too much time and how she isn't strong enough to get the vacuum head off so she can put on another attachment. urgh... I said, Well, you are a strong gymnastist and if you can't get that off then maybe you need to be doing more push ups. aaahh........ Help me get through to her! She does this all the time and drives me crazy, I know its just pure laziness on her part and I am so frustrated with her.
Oh, and by the way, ds was able to do the lawn, I cleaned the bathrooms and tired to mop, plus dusted, and did the dishes and she is still vacuuming. Lord have mercy! All I hear how our neighbors have a maid that comes in daily, and how they go and do something fun every single day. We had power outages and I was here running a generator by myself and trying to keep every okay. While they have a full house generator and day as normal for them and they went and played mini golf! God hasn't blessed us like that! I can't keep up with the Jones, nor do I want to but sometimes I get so tired of hearing how much easier they have it. I guess I am just a bad day
Yeah, they DO have it so much easier. And WHERE does the money for that come from? An important idea is that you have to spend either TIME or MONEY. You either spend money to save time, or spend time to save money. Which is more valuable to you? (And, of course, that will change depending on what it is!)
Well, my youngest, 10 by the way, is like that... you know what I do.... I give her more work added to the one she already has.. Then if she does not get it done within that time frame, she can't do something she really wants, like play on the computer.... or I have her do her sisters chore... She got the hint real fast!!! I had my husbands backing and all it took was daddy to say one word.. and now she does it....
My rule is no PS???? Then you pitch in. And if you waste time you get more to do. Mind you I base this on moods and what needs doing, ages etc.. I think some kids are just generally lazy too. I know I have a lazy streak but I also know the value of good work and I try to make the kids see that as well. As for your dd maybe she needs a lesson in how to vacuum thoroughly. And then mark her on it. Say its part of a new home ec class.
today or chore was cleaning under the couch cushions and under the couches................ UGGGG do you even know how much crap can hide under there? I promised the kids I would not be on the computer the whole time it took them to do it. I cleaned out 4 cabinets, cleaned off 2 counters and swept.
as for normal chores we have pretty much set who does what, then there is extra stuff, the kids used to get $5 every time they went to the grocery store, now its $2 a week, if they do their chores and sschool with out fussing. Eva is 11 (just turned) and she is the one who runs the vaccume here, my son has blown up 2 of them so he is banned from the vaccume cleaner, he is also banned from putting things in the outside freezer because he has forgot to close the door 2X. so his job is unloading the dishwasher and taking out the garbage.
yes..... we usually buy a new vaccume every other year........ its sad. He's also blown up a TV set..... (thank goodness it was replaced) (it was a electrical shock from the metal pins in his wrists we think........ anyway... we choose the chores he does very carefully.
...or maybe he's done it on purpose to get out of chores...? Hmm...wonder if it's possible to blow up a toilet....
My kids do a fair amount. My youngers 9 and 6 unload the dishwasher, and my oldest almost 13 year old loads it. My husband and I share the pots and pans. DS 9 vacuums and empties small trash cans around the house. DD 6 takes small trash bags out to big can by garage. We all pick up. We share bathroom duties. My oldest DD or I sweep kitchen and diningroom. It all gets done eventually!
All my kids ages 11,7,and 5 have chores. We work together as a team. So we can play together as a team. No one pays me to cook dinner. So I'm not paying you to put away your laundry or clean your room exc...
Ya know, fun and chrores often comes in the same package if you look hard enough. I know these kids (homeschooled) and they've found a unique way to have fun cleaning: (paste this after youtube dotcom) /watch?v=T7nsZA95nao It seems to me that the spirit of homeschooling is somewhere in that line of thinking. Fun and work leads to loving to learn. Just a thought.
