Yesterday we were at a local pizza place having lunch with our homeschool group(and which is owned by one our hs families!) and while I was at the buffet, a lady approached me and asked if I was with the hs group. Sadly, I almost hesitated to answer! When I told her I was, she surprised the heck out of me. Her response: "What a good mom you are! There is nothing harder than being a mom except also being their teacher. That's so great that you do that!"
Needless to say it took me a second, but I was eventually able to tell her thank you and that I appreciated her saying that.
You never know where you're going to find a positive response.
Just thought I'd share that. Have a great day.

I'm sure the well-behaved kids with you had something to do with it! You go, Mom!!!

I once had a lady come up to me IN THE SUMMER and asked me if I homeschooled. We were at a Nature Center at a state park, and my kids were drawing the snapping turtle in the tank. She just watched how I interacted with the kids, and decided I must be a hs'er. She wanted to know, because her daughter was considering hs'ing, and she had some legitimate questions about how I did things.

That sounds like one to write down and put into your "memory box" for days when you need a little boost!

I had the same type of comment the other night at one of my husband's dinner parties. A lady asked me what I did for a living. When I told her she did nothing but give me praises on being such a great mom. It made me feel wonderful and less guarded about the topic.

Babydux, that's great. I think we all have a mental catalogue where we keep all those great comments. Even though I've only been occasionally challenged by strangers, it is immensely pleasant to get positive feedback. It shouldn't matter, but it does.

I love hearing those stories! We had it happen to us once when me, my hubby, kids, & my mom were out to lunch during "school" hours. A man approached our table and asked if we homeschooled, told us he could tell, & what a great thing we were doing. Almost made my mom cry to hear those praises about her grandkids. Very encouraging.
