Hi, We are a blended family with 7 children, of which 6 still live at home. The two oldest children were home schooled and are now enrolled in college. One is at ITT (he had to get a GED in order to go but that is a whole other rant) and the other is enrolled at Liberty University. The five younger children are all home schooled. They range in age from three 15 yr old girls (a set of twins and a single), 13 yr old boy, and a 12 yr old boy. The girls are 5 months apart in age with the twins being older and the boys are 8 months apart. Some days it feels like I have triplets and twins! All of the children live with us full-time. My children from another mother have the advantage of having their mother living close by (mother-in-law apartment on our property) who actively participates in their education. We have been using an online public school for the last two years and it worked well for all of our children, but more so for our children with IEP's. This year they made a bunch of changes and it no longer works for any of our children. We pulled them (at the end of this month) to do home school like we did with the two oldest. Due to emotional/behavioral issues we will not return (ever) our children to a public system for education except for college of course I am a full-time college student as well so at times it is a bit crazy around here between the children and their schooling and mine! Anyway that is an intro to us. I look forward to finding resources and support as we start down this bumpy road!
Welcome! I just loved reading your intro. It sounds like you will be bringing lots of advice to us. Support and resources abound here, so search and ask away. Jump right in and good luck on your bumpy road.
You sound like you have a busy and exciting family. We also have seven children. The oldest three by birth and the younger four by adoption from foster care. None of ours are being homeschooled right now. Our youngest went back to public school this year after five years of homeschooling and the others are out of school now. I stick my head in here at Homeschool Spot about every day just to keep up with everyone. Glad you joined us here.
Welcome! I'm sure you will get the support you need here, and I'm expecting you will be able to come alongside those of us coming into areas you have already been through.
Thanks for all of the welcomes. With my two oldest I just went by the seat of my pants and did not do as well with them. Part of the problem is they are smarter than me lol The younger ones I am prepared to do much better with them and have more resources for them.
Welcome to the forum. I'm looking forward to hearing your experiences with raising/schooling so many teenagers.
